I’ve never heard of her but the synopsis is interesting.
I told myself no matter what’s chosen, I’m going to read all the suggestions lol we’ll see how that works out

Like Karin stated, there are quite a variety of choices..
For now, I'd like to suggest:

by Zora Neale Hurston

Good choice, Dosha!!
Haven't read as of yet, though the book's sitting pretty on my coffee tabe...

Florence Price grew up in a city which became more and more openly hostile and racist and far more Jim Crow during her lifetime. I don't want to give spoilers.
I have a passion for learning about women in the arts, particularly in classical music in which all women were squelched, especially in composition, but women of colour more so. But I'm not big on reading memoirs and biographies so don't do as much book learning on them as I should.
I first heard of her when my son played one of her pieces in college and said she's very good. She has some marvelous works--mostly vocal (choral and some art songs, which are one type of classical songs), but also some instrumental works.
Here is a marvellous rendition of her Violin Concerto--one of my GR friends knows this violinist (yes, I'm green with envy) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMRTU..., and here is one of my favourite art songs by her--a setting of a poem by Langston Hughes and it hearkens to a spiritual even though it's an art song beautifully sung by Dr. Ollie Watts Davis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaCB_...
Her mother made her pass as Mexican when she went to New England Conservatory--they did accept blacks, unlike many schools at that time, but blacks were taught separately. Price hated hiding who she was and as soon as she was done never did it again.

Click on 'add book/author' link (above the comment box)... Type in the Book's title, then click 'Cover' (not Link)... Then 'Search'
Hope that helps

Hi, Angel
Ohh OK... I'm an Android user lol
Currently, on my Samsung tablet, there are a # of link options, but Only the comment box on the mobile...
I, rarely ever comment via my phone, because of that reason; the format isn't pleasing to the eye (speaking for myself) lol

What a Beautiful & Inspirational read!!
Truly ❤️
Thank you, Cicely Tyson 🌹

Hey Aaliyah,
The book and author you suggested was not added to the poll because the author is not Black and the book isn't about Black a Black person.
Our group reads books about Black people and written by Black authors. My apologies for not being more specific in my original post about suggesting a book. I'm also sorry for not getting back to you sooner.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask 🙂

@MS. KYM Thank you for letting me know. She was such a Gift to the World. ❣️

I’m using the iPhone app and I haven’t had any issues when I press the link and I’ve pressed it a lot lol.
Also, I’ve come to the conclusion that this app is a little wonky in the threads because regularly words are missing from several posts on here, including mine. When I go to the mobile website or the desktop website the full post will be there. So, I said that to say, I don’t know what’s up with the app 🤦🏾♀️ sorry

What I've heard is that the app isn't as good as the website, but I use my desktop since I have a body friendly set up and enjoy the large screen I have.

Hey Dosha,
The poll closed yesterday. I posted the winner earlier today. Cicely Tyson won. The thread will be created soon. Are you going to join the discussion??

For September we decided to switch it up a little.
We would like suggestions for nonfiction books this month.
If you have a nonfiction book that you believe would be a great group read please post it below.
