Edit: No, I won't be able to read The Hobbit this year, Moby Dick takes a long time. I like it a lot though.
Countries I've been travelling to and through:
USA, Argentina, New Zealand, France, India
Sweden

I have actually never ever read his books yet. Embarrassing, especially since I've always wanted to. Will this be the year when I at least begin? (Yes, it Must be).
Since he is born in South Africa I can use him for that country and chose another for England. That must be according to the rules, right?

I'd love to read for as many countries as possible but this month I'm still struggling to finish Buddenbrooks. (Maybe I won't ever leave Germany! :O )
💐🌹🥀🌺🌷🌸💮🏵️🌻🌼

Nike, I share your pain - that’s how I felt about it! It’s also why I finished it - if I’d taken a break from it I wouldn’t have started again. I just abandoned everything else & kept reading until, eventually, I reached the end. It’s a shame, it isn’t a bad book & could have been enjoyable if it had been edited a lot. As it is, I have no plans to attempt to read another book by the same author.

At the beginning of each year I do some planning and look at what I have read the most of. I realized my reading was very limited in the area of British authors, so that has been my special focus this year.

I love that old movie reel!

Nike that's my heartthrob, my favourite of the 'silent clowns' and the world's first stuntman - Buster Keaton!
PS - he built that train!

Aha, I only recognise Buster Keaton when he is old! I love that famous scene when he drops his toupé (haven't got a clue how that word is spelled in English, I mean the "mini wig") in his soup and one can see the faces of a couple in the mirror. But of course he must have been young once. Thank you 🙂

Yesterday when I glanced through your titles I discovered the title Martin Chuzzelwhit for the very first time, I've never heard that title or name before. And a few minutes ago I finished the first book out of Haruki Murakami's trilogy 1Q84 and this very title is mentioned in one of the last pages. I love when things like that happens.

How fun to see that you've listed a classic crime novel from my country 🙂. I haven't actually read it myself yet but I've recently bought a second hand ex of it so I might read it this or next year. (Probably next year since it will suit a prompt in the ATY 2024 - challenge).

A journey through the dream in the search of love…
Hypnerotomachia Poliphili by Francesco Colonna
A journey through the past…
Embers by Sándor Márai
A long mystical journey – both physical and spiritual…
The Devil’s Elixir by E. T. A. Hoffmann
A journey through the boredom of the afterlife…
The Childermass by Wyndham Lewis

A journey through misery and poverty…
***** Barren Lives by Graciliano Ramos
A journey into a gloomy secret of the past…
***** A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner
A supernatural journey into the mystical world…
***** The House on the Borderland by William Hope Hodgson
A night walk in the Luxembourg garden with divine beings…
***** A Night in the Luxembourg by Remy de Gourmont
A Christmas misadventure in the mountains…
***** Rock Crystal by Adalbert Stifter
A journey to colonial India…
***** Passage to India by E. M. Forster

Hmm, I haven't stuck completely to the rules then. I've made a detour to my home country already and I will continue to France and India now instead of returning home. Will I be forgiven? 😏😔

🙏 Thank you so much 💜. I was there in real life 1995💜 and there hasn't been a day siny without me longing for a return.
Now I'll go there by the company of Rabindranath Tagore

I’m shocked, Nike - you are such a rebel! But it doesn’t matter, it seems you had fun reading your books.

Thank you for your comments, Pam. It’s interesting that you enjoyed having a longer challenge. Useful feedback as it will be something to consider doing again if others feel the same.
I like your choice of short stories to finish the challenge.

Read classic books or short stories where either the setting or the author is from a country where you don’t live. It would be good if the book includes a journey, but that isn’t essential. How many countries can you “visit” in 2 months?
For example, as I live in the UK I could read a book by John Steinbeck from USA. Nike is from Sweden & could read a book by Charles Dickens from UK. (Whatever books or stories you choose, read a version in the language you prefer.)
20 - 30 November
The journey has ended so there are a few days to read a short story or book set in the country where you live or by an author from that country.
As always, challenges are optional - even one short story is enough to participate. Have fun!
