Really? The next one is even better? It's great because I added it to my TBR right after finishing the first.

The book tells us about Bhima, a poor Indian woman who takes care of her 17-year-old granddaughter and works in the house of a rich widow named Sera. It was interesting to learn about a society where your social status matters so much. The depiction of Sera's refusal to allow Bhima a seat on her sofa or any chair, instead compelling her to crouch, was particularly poignant.
The author skillfully employed dual storylines, alternating between the past and the present. Even though this is a common way of writing now, it worked well in this book. The effect was akin to eavesdropping on individuals as they reminisced about their past. And I could see how things happening in the present could conjure up certain memories.
