Featured Author N&D October 2023

Synopsis of story:

Down a lonely stretch of highway stands the deserted town of Cutter's Deep. Except it's not as desolate as it seems. In fact, there's quite a lot going on behind its decaying facade and for those unfortunate to find themselves within its shadow, it's almost always deadly.

Within its guarded walls lives a young man named Arlington Woods. He's about to meet an outsider who's going to trigger something hidden deep within him that just might destroy Cutter's Deep.

And the rest of the world with it.

Just a reminder so you know, Anne - the author won't be here probably till October as this book is for the month of October - though the book is 300+ pages maybe you will roll right into next month with it. lol :)

Just west of where I live is an area called the Ottawa Valley. It’s a large expanse of rural towns. They are spread out and separated by wilderness. Having driven through them and visited them many times, I’ve often imagined what might go on in them when there are no outsiders’ prying eyes around.

The germ for this particular story came from the idea, what if I found myself in a town that wasn’t on any map, but was inhabited by every horror imaginable. A town easy to stumble into but almost impossible to escape. This my friends is “Cutter’s Deep.”

Cool background info, Ron! So it is almost like that video game and movie Silent Hill as a comparison because no one would want to be stuck in Silent Hill! And no one is going to want to be stuck in Cutter's Deep either! lol

message 33: by Ronald (new)

Ronald McGillvray | 55 comments Funny that you should mention Silent Hill, Marie. If you meshed Silent Hill and Midian (from Cabal) you wouldn’t be far off. Of course Cutter’s Deep would eat them both for breakfast. 😀

I am enjoying it - read some of it today. I am only 19% into the story and getting ready to read Chapter 5.

This story has really hit a twist! lol

So throwing a thought into a spoiler as I am not sure how far everyone is along in the book.

Thoughts so far.

So another question Ronald.

The hotel that is mentioned in the story - Fairwinds Hotel and Resort. Is that a real place or taken from a place you know or have visited?

Glad that you’re enjoying it, Marie. Twists, there’s plenty more to come. I can almost guarantee that this read will be nothing like you’ve read before. Even after reading it through, after I finished writing it, I was wondering to myself, what the hell? Fasten your seatbelt. 😀

It’s a culmination of several hotels that I’ve been to. I have very clear pictures of the specific hotels in my head. The garage is from one hotel, the front lobby and elevators from another, the exterior façade from a third and the hallways and guest rooms from a fourth. I guess you could say it’s a Frankenstein hotel made from several different pieces. 😀

Thanks Anne. I’m glad your enjoying the madness. 😀
I would have to say that he’s based loosely on me. When I’m writing, I generally add a part of me in the main character so that I can experience what I might do in the crazy situations I come up with.

Up to 33% and wow this is a crazy ride! lol :)

Love Arlington! :) It seems he is wanting to break his hold from that place and maybe experience what is outside of Cutter's Deep thanks to Claire.

Now I am curious about all this backstory information with Matt Richardson and what he found out from his mother.

All very suspenseful/mysterious along with blood splatter among other things! :)

This book Ronald seems to be a mash up of horror, fantasy, dark fantasy and science fiction.

When you first started to really get going in the story did you know what genres you were planning on this book becoming or did all of these genres just weave into the storyline as you were writing it?
