Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1566 comments The lovely Sammy always does a little section about "How to be a Super Awesome Teamie", so I'm stealing it! (Definitely DON'T tell!) 👀

"How to be a Super Awesome Teamie"
by Sammy

It's easy to be an awesome teamie. Here's how:
🎵 Do I need to read a ton of books? - Nope, you can be an awesome teamie reading whatever you're comfortable with, even if that is no books at all.
🎵 Do I need to read nothing but doorstoppers? - Again, nope. You can read any length book you want, so long as they meet the requirements and still be an awesome teamie.
🎵 The secret to awesome teamieness? Communication!

🎵 Can't quite manage your books for the month (all reasons for this are accepted, even "I just didn't feel like reading")? No problem! Just let us know, so other people can step in and cover what needs covering.
🎵 Only reading one book per month and don't feel like chatting on the team thread? Perfectly fine, participation isn't mandatory (but fun, so definitely encouraged!). All we ask is that you drop any of the captains a line, either on the thread or as a DM at least once a week to say you're still participating in the challenge. Completing a book and updating the SS/leaving a completion post is also acceptable as a sign you're still playing, of course.
🎵 Life thrown you a curve-ball and you need to pull out of the challenge? We totally understand. Please let one of the captains know (you don't have to give reasons if you don't want to) so we can say 'auf wiedersehen' (so much nicer than ghosting) and request a replacement player to fill in for you.

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1566 comments It's me! Hi! I'm the problem... oh wait.. that should probably be Team Pop...

I'm Ashley, your extremely hilarious and eloquent Captain, as it is immediately obvious from my intro.... ..anyway... I'm 38 and I have 3 kids and a husband and I own a pet boutique. That's basically it. I love to read (clearly) and I'll read just about anything, but my favorites are Fantasy (all types), Historical Fiction, Romance (all types), and Bios/Memoirs.

I'm a chatter - I'm here a lot - so if you are a chatty group, that's great! If you're not, that's ok. I promise I won't try to convert you.

I'm here to be as helpful as possible. If anyone has a question, please don't hesitate to ask it. No stupid questions. Sometimes I need things explained 27 times to get it.... I understand.

I like to do an Icebreaker Question to loosen us all up and I decided to go with my profession...
What dog breed would you be? Or would you be a cat? or some other animal? feel free to elaborate extensively....

Personally, I think I would be a Lab, or maybe a Lab-mix of some sort. That seems boring... but I think that probably sums me up nicely... boring..

Oh yes, one more thing (I'm sure there will be a lot of "one more things", so just bear with me)...

I am missing wheel shelves for Ashlee L, Brittany and Shannon. Drop a link to your shelf whenever you get it set up! Thank you!

Also, Lauri - you have an incorrect link in the initial post. Don't worry, I found you, and your link should be corrected soon. I have it on our spreadsheet correctly.

I will read pretty much anything, but gravitate towards mystery and romance.

Daniel Hanson-Brown (dozerpup711) | 224 comments Hello, Team!

I’m Daniel a 45 yo Workforce Analyst in Southeast Texas (north of Houston). I read just about anything bust lean towards mystery/thrillers and urban fantasy. I use to be so invested in individual challenges that I would plan my reading list a year in advance but that became too stressful and I’m a much more relaxed challenger now and a happier reader reading whatever I feel like at the time.

I have a husband and 2 cats, Nirṛti and River (my usual reading companion) and spend a lot of my free time cooking, reading, or learning how to hack Excel to make my job easier.

If I were a dog I’d probably be a St. Bernard. In human form, I’m big and tall and I’m always coming to the rescue with emergency hugs.

I guess that’s about it for now. Feel free to add me as a GR friend! I like seeing what other folks are reading and maybe find something I might like. Looking forward to working with Team Opera!

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1566 comments Hi Daniel! So nice to have you!
Also, I love a big dog!

Daniel Hanson-Brown (dozerpup711) | 224 comments BTW, I did check and the BOM How to Sell a Haunted House has the word “guitar” in it, so we should get some bonus points from that.

message 19: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments Aloha from Hawaii! I'm Lauri & am very excited to play Wheel again. I skipped last year because it was too close to Christmas. But now I'm baaaaack...
I work full-time at the State Hospital (yes, read mental hospital) in medical records. I'm an old married lady with 1 adult son. I have a bit of reading OCD & I love planning for these big challenges!

Captains & teammies, I will be asking for help because I can't use Excel to save my own life! Is it okay if I claim /post completion posts in this thread & ask for someone to add it on the spreadsheet for me?

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

So sorry about the shelf mix-up! Glad you were able to find me after all...

I would like to be a housecat in my next life. Don't care what kind, just a fat lazy, beloved housecat.

If I could be any kind of dog, I'd pick Golden Retriever or German Shepherd. I think they're so beautiful! I would like to have a Frenchie as a pet...

Sadly, our apartment building does not allow pets! I grew up surrounded by animals & really miss not having even one now...

Lauri, we will absolutely help you! You are free to post a completion comment (I put the basic format in this comment). That being said, I made the spreadsheet very easy to use, so if you want to take a stab at it, feel free. You won't mess up anything I can't fix, PROMISE!

Excellent find! I (unfortunately) read this book earlier in the year, so I can't participate this time around. Crossing my fingers for the November BOMs!!

Melissa | 1895 comments Hello all!
I'm Melissa - co captain with the amazing Ashley!

I am also an old married lady with 2 adult daughters, 2 cats and a dog. I'm a middle school teacher, so I usually finish up books on the weekend. I do a bit of copyediting too :) - just volunteer for now.

I like all sorts of books, and I'll read anything for points!.... When in doubt I gravitate towards nonfiction and sci-fi, and I try to keep up with middle grades books so I'll read those too.

If I was a dog... probably a mutt / cattle dog. I'm always herding folks! and I'm loyal. I have a cattle dog mutt who is 💖. But I'd be a lazy one... if there are any.

No problem.
I love me a spreadsheet :)

message 25: by Ariel (new)

Ariel (aellen) | 129 comments Hello everyone! My name is Ariel and this is only my second time playing Wheel. Please bear with me because it may take some moments to figure out what to do. LOL

Some facts about me: I am 28 years old, a substitute teacher, and definitely an avid reader like most of us here. I have 2 puppies (who are not puppies in the slightest but they will always be to me - LOL) - Katie Sue (11 yrs) and Polo (9ish yrs). My favorite genres range from mystery/thriller to romance. I don't mind branching out to new genres but I still have yet to find a historical romance that I enjoy.

If I could be any kind of dog, I would probably be a Greyhound. I have always loved them and they really fit my personality. <3

message 26: by Brittany (new)

Brittany McCann (brittanylmccann) | 1266 comments If I could be any kind of animal I would be an alicorn. I have always wanted purple eyes since my early obsession with The Last Unicorn, and once I discovered that a unicorn and a pegasus could be combined, I have always harbored a love for all that this creature is capable of, including beauty and grace.

If I had to choose an animal in the human realm, I would choose the Prehensile-Tailed porcupine. Something about the way they hold things in their little clutches and the manatee nose. They love naps and are fairly laid back and never seem to lose hope .

message 27: by Shannon (new)

Shannon O'Flynn | 630 comments Hi! My name is Shannon! I'm super excited to be on this team for this challenge!

Im currently in university so I will be reading when I can although it probably will be slower because of this.

If I were a dog I think i would be a Labrador Retriever. Im always staying active and going to the gym and I love hanging out with my friends!

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1566 comments Excellent to have you Lorna!

You have me beat with the tattoos, I have about 20. I think. They all start to run together after awhile! I'm working on 2 leg sleeves and I can never decide how you should count those, haha!

message 30: by Brittany (new)

Brittany McCann (brittanylmccann) | 1266 comments Is teal considered blue here?
Fall of Ruin and Wrath (Awakening, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

message 31: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1566 comments Blue is usually separate from teal and therefore not considered the same color in challenges. That being said, I am double checking in the captain group on what blues are acceptable for the bonus.

message 32: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Hanson-Brown (dozerpup711) | 224 comments I’m colorblind and don’t do well in color based challenges. I hope it’s ok if I don’t try for the color bonus and concentrate on the spell out.

message 33: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1566 comments Of course Daniel! We can only use a limited amount of color covers anyway, so it is of no concern!

message 34: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments So psyched for our awesome team!!

message 35: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments On a music note... do any of you listen to opera?
My dad loved it.
I used to listen to a bit - I remember liking La Traviata.
Maybe I'll get back to listening to it in between books.

Could you create a Wheels shelf and send us the link?
Thanks!

message 37: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1566 comments I don't listen to opera, but I would definitely go to one if invited!!

message 38: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Hanson-Brown (dozerpup711) | 224 comments I remember seeing The Magic Flute on a school trip when I was 10 or so. I liked the character Papageno, who is the comic relief, but I was blown away by the Queen of the Night’s aria. I also saw Carmen in college as an assignment for my Music Appreciation class. But as a Theatre major I’m VERY well versed in opera’s descendant the Musical!

message 39: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments LOVE opera! Some of my faves are Turandot, Norma, Aida, Carmen… I used to go to a bunch every year during the season for FREE because my cousin was a make up volunteer for the cast. Sadly, he is no longer with us and it’s so expensive! Also, no one to go with anymore! My husband absolutely refuses. We do love musical theatre, though, and try to go whenever a national road company comes to Hawaii…it’s been awhile now.

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments For round 1 I will claim A Morbid Taste for Bones by Ellis Peters with a blue cover. I will also read the BOM How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix for participation points…
Could someone please add these to the spreadsheet for me? Thank you ever so much…
