Talia (kneyda) | 25 comments I have a 7th gen kindle paperwhite that is 8 years old. It has started to take a half a day to charge and holds it charge for maybe 5 hours. Does anyone know the lifespan of a kindle? I tried finding it on the web but wasn't successful. Hoping someone has experience with this. I may need to buy a new one. Are the new ones ok?

wosedwew | 411 comments In 2014, I got a Kindle Paperwhite. It still charges and holds a charge for an acceptable time.
I thought I had my money's worth from the old one.
Last year, I broke down and bought a Kindle Oasis. It is the one I use most, although I keep the old one near my living room chair and use it once in a while.

Talia (kneyda) | 25 comments Thank you. I am sure I got my money's worth too but I figured that people here have gone through the life of their kindles so I would ask. I had thought about the Oasis but does it lay flat on the back? I am thinking maybe the signature so there would be no ads and it could charge on a stand. I am hoping to see how people here like their specific kindle. I wish I could see them in person.

wosedwew | 411 comments What do you mean "lay flat on the back" -- doesn't it depend on what type of cover you choose?

I charge mine with the cord and plug-in, so I can't answer about a stand.

I am sorry. I guess I am confused about the Oasis. I thought it had a section that sticks out for a hand grip? possibly? I will just go pick out another kindle. Thank you so much for the help.

Yes, very true.

wosedwew | 411 comments Talia, I did not understand your comment. I thought you were asking if the Oasis could stand upright for reading -- which depends on what cover you choose, I think.

There is a "bump out" on the back of the Oasis. I think it is the placement of the "works" and it is not straight across, maybe to keep the total weight down.

Talia (kneyda) | 25 comments Yes! That is what I was thinking. I ended up looking at some side by side comparison videos on youtube. Thank you again for your help.

Linda | 223 comments I switched from a kindle to an iPad about 5 years ago. I would never go back to a kindle, but I also have an iPhone, so they sync. I can get my text messages and use the apps on both. Good luck with your decision!

Craftyhj | 441 comments I just have the basic cheapest one, with ads. They don't really bother me much as they re only on the home screen.

Having said that I would like the waterproof one to make reading in the bath less fraught!

Thanks. I didn't think of that. Maybe I should just go with my ipad.

I think the cheapest one is probably the same thing as my 8 year old paperwhite is. They look exactly the same and have the same screen. I am also used to the size. I read a lot every day and I love kindle unlimited. Thank you for writing in your thoughts.
