Chris Cosmain | 11 comments Hello All
Books like Stephen King's 11/22/63 postulates a scenario where the universe "resists" the past being changed by time travelers, but changing the past is still possible.
What would it be like to travel back in time in a deterministic universe, where the past, present and future are set, and no-one can change anything? Would this automatically mean that nobody has free will?
And what would happen to a time traveler who goes back and knows how the future will play out, yet cannot change anything?

That scenario raises another question: by what right would a time traveler bent into changing history would try such a thing? One individual would want to change the history for everyone, probably to fulfill his own wishes or goals? That's not free will: I would call that hubris and selfishness. I like time travel stories but I prefer when time travel is effected to study history, not undo it. The one kind of intervention I would approve is if someone is trying to avoid a global nuclear war or some other World catastrophe.

Chris Cosmain | 11 comments Excellent points Michel - there are a few TT books where "rules of TT" are discussed, but I am trying to recall if there are novels where an ethical code of time travel is explicitly presented?

One series of novels on ethical time travel comes to my mind: Time Patrol, by Poul Anderson. They describe the actions of dedicated agents tasked with protecting the integrity of history as we know it now.

In the meantime, here's a trailer for the interview that somehow arrived on YouTube and elsewhere from the future. https://youtube.com/shorts/4G9Nl4gGgg...
