Sue | 2709 comments I really enjoyed this book. Two bored and lonely teenagers set out to make Art one summer and end up creating a minor cultural phenomenon.

Frankie and Zeke create a poster based on a phrase that Frankie makes up: The edge is a shantytown filled with gold seekers. We are fugitives, and the law is skinny with hunger for us.

I'll admit this phrase is not at all earth-shattering for me and I was a little surprised it caused such a stir in their small Tennessee town. But the author's note at the end of the book explains how the phrase has been part of his life, and that he has chanted it to himself his whole like similar to Frankie's connection to it in the book. The author shared that he has Tourette Syndrome, and this phrase helps him reduce anxiety.

Joy D | 10061 comments Glad you enjoyed this too. I really liked the two main characters. I think the town may have viewed the phrase as meaning the law needs to go find them since they have done something wrong, causing fear, which is a primal motivator. At least that's the way I interpreted it.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11060 comments I liked it a lot too. My bookclub will be reading it in a few months. This is one that I might not mind rereading - part of it at least. I liked the girl’s mother.
