Here is the nominations thread for December! I believe we typically have a Christmas book for December, but nominating non-Christmas books is fine too.

The book with the most votes will be the book of the month. I look forward to your suggestions!

Just a friendly reminder that it's always a good idea to look over the guidelines if you've never nominated before.

Feel free to nominate a Christian fiction book of your choosing. Do consider nominating an author that we've not read at least in 2021 or 2022. Please follow the guidelines below and also make sure to nominate a book that released AT LEAST three months ago.

PLEASE REVIEW THESE GUIDELINES:
-Please do not nominate a book we've already read as a group in the last three years. You will be asked for a different nomination if you do.

-Remember that a book must be out for 3 months or more to be eligible for nominations and voting

-Any author is up for nomination, as long as the book you nominate has not been a group read during 2020-2022, however, try not to nominate an author that we've read this year already.

-If it is a book in a series that is not the first book, make sure you know that it can be read as a standalone and doesn't require the previous books being read to understand and enjoy.

-Please note that there may be more reasons that a book is not a good fit for nominations or group members as a whole, whether it be availability, cost, accessibility, etc. The moderators reserve the right to make these decisions. Please know we do our best in making these kinds of decisions, and we're all human. Your patience is appreciated. Thank you for your understanding! :)

Nominations will be open through October 14.

Instead I will nominate: On the Way to Christmas Three Stories by Sheila Roberts

Katrina Lybbert | 886 comments I just noticed The Wish Book Christmas is book 2 in a series. For anyone who has read it, can it be read as a standalone?

now that you mention it, you really do need to know what happened in book 1 to get the full nuance of what is going on in book 2 . . . not to mention some pretty major spoilers for what happens in book 1

Good to know, Kate. Thanks. I guess my nomination will change. I will be sure to read book 1 first!

Myrna, can I get you to nominate a different book? This particular book isn't Christian Fiction and we prefer to focus on Christian Fiction novels. Thank you!

No apologies needed Myrna. We are glad to have you engaged and nominating. A Five and Dime Christmas was already nominated so you can definitely vote for it when the poll opens. You are also welcome to nominate something else.

It says that it is Christian. I know we have read his works before in challenges.

Missy, we have since learned that the author's Mormon (non-Christian) beliefs sometimes play roles in his stories. We cannot, in good conscience, promote non-Christian beliefs in books we read as a group.

His books may still be read for our reading challenges, just not nominated for group reads.

Thanks Andrea. That's a good distinction between challenge books and group reads. We don't restrict what can be used for challenges other than request that covers not be shared if potentially offensive to others.

I was also going to nominate that book.
I am also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon). I was just wondering what non-christian beliefs he has in his books. I think I have read almost all of his books.
Thanks also for the clarification of what to do with books we read that may have something offensive in them. I was wondering. I will make sure that I do not use the covers of books that fall into that category.

No worries Christine!

Thanks Kate. I have been posting the poll early the past couple of months due to schedule conflicts on the 14th/15th when the poll should be posted. Love that the system allows for setting it up early.
