CountZeroOr (count_zero) | 71 comments I mentioned on the Discord that this is giving me real Panos Cosmatos (Mandy, Beyond the Black Rainbow) vibes. Is anyone else getting that?

If you're getting vibes from anything else, what kind of vibes would you say this is laying down?

Tamahome | 7215 comments I didn't know what that was. Here's the Mandy trailer. Nick Cage bonus.

Beyond the Black Rainbow trailer (not Christian Bale):

Perhaps we can watch these creepy movies on a stream with Veronica...

Stephen Richter (stephenofskytrain) | 1638 comments My main vibe was WTF. Then I got a Greek Mythology vibe set in the Modern World.

Trike | 11190 comments Is “copying” a vibe? The Library at Mount Char is a direct rip-off of The Umbrella Academy, Vol. 1: Apocalypse Suite.

Same characters with similar abilities/personalities, same faux family set-up, same manipulative fake father figure who brutalizes his “children”, similar story arc… the specific details are different but it’s pretty much lawsuit ready.

Stephen Richter (stephenofskytrain) | 1638 comments Since Library of Mount Char came out in 2015, I do not see any lawsuit coming. Did you read the book?

Yes.

Umbrella Academy came out in 2007.

Also FYI: unlike most people, I don’t have opinions about things I don’t know about. I would not have stated my opinion if I hadn’t read both.

Oaken | 421 comments Well, I know nothing about publishing or comics or copyright law but let me tell you all the ways you are wrong.

I see you.

I definitely see the similarities, but I’d say there is enough that’s different for it to stand on its own. It is possible to include several very close similarities without being a case of copying, and that’s what this seems to me.

Oaken | 421 comments “The Sword of Shannara” steps out from behind the curtain and says, “Yeah, that’s right!”

How about nooooooooo!

CountZeroOr (count_zero) | 71 comments One other vibes addition - in terms of the violence, it did also kind of remind me of some of the Lucio Fulci movies I'd seen, particularly The Beyond & House by the Cemetary.

For Shields from the UK, if those sound familiar, that's 'cause they were on the Video Nasties list.

(Veronica, don't watch the trailers for those movies, never mind watching the actual films).

Pumpkinstew | 117 comments I can see the Greek pantheon comparison and by extension The Wicked and the Divine. I haven't read Umbrealla Academy.

It reminded me strongly of Iain Banks' Use of Weapons in the way gruesome acts of violence were enacted in a detached way to build towards a multi-step goal.
