MsYinry | 2 comments I know one of the ways is to just read shorter books and stuff but because of that, I'm starting to be unable to handle larger books. Even if I like the book, I slowly stop reading them because I'm busy with my college studies. By the time I'm back, the characters feel so unfamiliar so I stop reading them.

Even when I do finish reading a long book, I have to take a break from it for a while (even if it's a series with multiple books out already) so I go back to reading short books after a week and so the cycle repeats itself. Is there any way to get out of this?

Dia | 386 comments What genre is your absolute guilty pleasure? What has helped me is to read books from those genres as I find them relatively easy to consume. For me it is mystery/thriller, crime, romance.

Maybe the longer books you're reading are just not gripping you enough? I used to persevere and continue reading but nowadays, within the first 5 pages I already know if I'll like the book (for me the writing plays a big role) and I stop forcing myself to finish the book if it just doesn't interest me much. Perhaps don't give yourself too much pressure to read. It's meant to be fun and maybe you're just at a point in life where it doesn't align with your goals/needs. I know I read less during the semester.

Thanks for the advice. I'm the same about the 5 pages thing, I always promise I'll go back to it eventually because the premise is good but the first few pages just stopped me so now I have a backlog of tbr

LaNona I find that whenever I get into a reading slump all I want to do is re-read my favorite books again and they're all I want to read.
