The evidence seems to point to Dwight McDonnel being the Route 99 serial killer when he attacks a prostitute similarly to the murdered women and claims he’d killed other girls. After they get a partial DNA match to the one sample they had, they go to arrest him and find he’d “committed suicide.” Tracy had serious reservations but was overruled by everyone, including Faz and Dell. Did you share her skepticism at the time? What did you make of what Faz said to her about her reluctance (maybe she missed being the one personally solving the case)?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments First off, it was the middle of the book so I knew this wasn't our guy.

I kept wondering if McDonnell had really committed suicide or if he had help. Nobody seemed to question that he had conveniently killed himself. It just seemed too easy.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments Agreed, Robin. There was a lot more book to get through, unless the author was going to take us somewhere else altogether.

Dwight didn’t seem to have a connection to the women Tracy identified as being connected to each other. And, yes, it not only seemed too easy, but why would he resurrect himself in this moment? That suicide smelled rotten.

I was disappointed in Faz saying that to Tracy. She didn’t deserve that.

Me too. Didn't he do that once before? I wonder if they are getting too close to Tracy's replacement, and forgot how much Tracy puts into an investigation.

Sharon, I thought it had happened before, too, but can’t recall when. I know Faz cares for and respects Tracy so it’s not that. Just don’t understand where this comes from.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments It is a mystery to me too.
