Keri Payton (keripayton) | 4 comments Was looking at the pronunciation guide and she said that the "a" sound is like the "o" in "hot," pronounced "ah." Which American accent is she basing this off of? I definitely do not pronounce hot as "haht." This also makes me wonder if when she writes "doll" for dal she means "dahl." It's incredibly confusing.

I think the reason it says "a as in hot" is because it makes the same sound as the a in avacado (think "ah ha!" instead of "hat")? Maybe I'm stretching here, but that's all I could come up with. But I agree that it's less of an a sound and more of an o sound (but let's face it, the English language is all kinds of special). (:
