After Nick and Sam realize what Peter had done to them, all those feelings came rushing back and they had a tough time keeping their hands off of each other throughout the investigation. Did Sam cross the line or was she on solid ground once Nick was cleared as a suspect?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments With all eyes on her and this investigation, she should have gone to her boss and explained what she and Nick were to each other and that she still had feelings for him. I don't think she crossed the line, but her toes were right up against it.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments I think she was right in her mind and heart about Nick's innocence, but I doubt that her boss would have let her stay on the case.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 9264 comments Mod
I agree with Anita…word for word. Her desire to stay on that case drove everything. I think you’re right, Charlene, about her boss probably pulling her from the case.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1801 comments Yes, they would have pulled her from the case due to the conflict and that is exactly why she kept it to herself.

While I understand why she did it and accept that Nick was innocent, it was unacceptable. Professional ethics are not something that should be glossed over, and her behavior was unethical.

I had a tougher time with it this go round because of that prequel. People get suspended for this stuff.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments In the real world she would have been off the case for sure.

In real life, she might even have lost her job.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I agree with Lauren. Her relationship with Nick was a conflict and she would have (should have) been pulled from the case. It was unethical behavior on her part.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I agree that the outcome would be different in the real world, but I like when fictitious characters get a pass.

For me, if an author is going to write a police procedural, it should be as realistic and logical as possible. I'd be more forgiving in a romantic suspense without the police elements.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments True Lauren.

I'm wondering if this was her first police procedural and she didn't research it thoroughly. I knew her as a romance writer. I bet she took a lot of hits. Jonetta said the series improves as it goes along.

I think it was, and I am sure she's grown as an author.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments Sharon I love how you put it "fictitious characters get a pass." So true and that is why I ignore a lot in romantic-suspense. The authors are spinning a suspense tale with a hot romance. The real world has very little to do with it.
