We learn that two years ago, Sam’s father Skip was shot on the job and is now a quadriplegic. The case is unsolved and Sam has declared she’s committed to finding out who tried to kill him. Do you expect this to become a continuing story arc?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I'm pretty sure it will string out over a few books. I just hope it doesn't go on too long.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments I doubt that the author would put this part in and not at least work in somewhere in the (near, I hope) future.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 9264 comments Mod
I know the answer since this is a reread but the fact that his shooter was never captured made me think that this was going to be a thing in this series.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1801 comments I was actually thinking that Peter may have been behind this considering the fact that, like many abusers, he wanted to separate Sam from her family.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 9264 comments Mod
Ooh. Never even occurred to me. Good theory.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I only read this book in the series and have no real idea who shot Skip, but I really do like Peter for this.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments Oh, Lauren, I have experienced a former daughter-in-law's moves to try to keep our son away from us, but I did not even think about your theory here. I do not remember any of the next books, although I think I read at least one or two more before I gave up.

I don’t remember everything, either. I binged through the series the first time so it’s been a long time.

I read the next book as well but I can't remember if Skip's shooter is revealed. I stopped after #2, so this is something that I'm eager to learn more about.

Isolation from family and friends is one of the most insidious things that abusers do. It's heartbreaking. I hope you son is OK.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I read the first six or seven books in the series. I don't remember Skip's shooting being solved in those books, but my memory is spotty.

I like Lauren's idea about it possibly being Peter.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I read the first three books but I don't remember a thing about Skip's shooting. I'm sure it will be a multi-book arc.

It wouldn't surprise me if Peter shot Skip. In his mind, Sam loves Skip more than Peters. He isn't smart enough to realize a father's love and a husband's love are totally different.

An abuser doesn't think in that way. Peter wanted Sam all to himself and I can definitely see him viewing Skip (and the rest of her family) as a threat to him.

Peter tried to isolate her and Skip would definitely have been a threat.
