I chose a short and sweet/bittersweet story by JL Merrow to start off with.
Reunion, a Glastonbury Tales short story
https://jlmerrow.com/free-reads/reuni...
"Sleeping rough, you see all sorts. And up on Glastonbury Tor, you might see more than most—especially at Samhain. About to turn in for the night, Kai is greeted by a young man, Arthur, who’s not quite sure why he’s come to Glastonbury Tor—or how long it’s been since he last met his lover there.
Kai, a non-binary rough sleeper, is a side character from my Glastonbury Tales. They have a minor role in Face Blind, but we’ll see more of them in the second book, Love Blind (title tbc)." — JL Merrow
I have Face Blind, but haven't read it... will need to remedy that.

A new one by Kaje Harper showed up this evening — Down in the Cellar. :)

Thanks for the quick link which made it easy to get to. Kaje does a short story every Sunday for her Facebook group, and included it in the Halloween giveaway. Her stories are always excellent. This one had me holding my breath with the spooky, tense beginning. I won't spoil the rest, but just say it's worth the read.

That's a nice idea. Thank you!

(You can download, but short enough to read online.)
Another one that starts off scary but ends just fine. I have to admit, I don't recall Rufus as a minor character in her book Adverse Conditions, but I liked main characters and look forward to the sequels with stories about the secondary characters. There are murders, missing persons, and competent serious law enforcement professionals.

A nice addition to the series. Rufus is the Sasquatch-obsessed older guy (Magnus's dad) who was seeing Xavier's mom in Adverse Conditions. He shows up in Below Grade as well. I'm at the 75% mark in that one. :)

I just started Below Grade this morning. When they first mentioned Rufus I remembered him from the first book. No wonder he keeps searching! :)

RJ Scott and ~30 other authors are participating in "Twist in the Tale," described as a "short story event in which 31 authors share tales with a twist, tales inspired by Halloween, or some spooktacularly cool stories." The stories are listed on RJ's website (just 12 are up as of today) and are free via links to bookfunnel, bookhip, or the author's website.
You may choose to comment on any of the stories that you choose to read. This is a bit different from our usual BOM discussions, as we won't necessarily be reading the same stories, so should probably avoid spoilers or use spoiler coding, but we will be able to share reading suggestions and comments with each other.
A few of the authors participating so far are BA Tortuga, JL Merrow, Rhys Lawless, Suki Fleet, V.L. Locey.
