Seven hours in the past. Seven days in the present. Seven survivors remaining. Who would you save?
A decade ago, two vans filled with high school seniors on a school service trip crashed into a Tennessee ravine—a tragedy that claimed the lives of multiple classmates and teachers. The nine students who managed to escape the river that night were irrevocably changed. A year later, after one of the survivors dies by suicide on the anniversary of the crash, the rest of them make a pact: to come together each year to commemorate that terrible night.
To keep one another safe. To hold one another accountable. Or both.
Their annual meeting place, a house on the Outer Banks, has long been a refuge. But by the tenth anniversary, Cassidy Bent has worked to distance herself from the tragedy and from the other survivors. She’s changed her mobile number. She’s blocked the others’ email addresses. This year, she is determined to finally break ties once and for all. But on the day of the reunion, she receives a text with an obituary attached: another survivor is gone. Now they are seven—and Cassidy finds herself hurling back toward the group, wild with grief—and suspicion.
Almost immediately, something feels off this year. Cassidy is the first to notice when Amaya, the annual organizer, slips away, overwhelmed. This wouldn’t raise alarm except for the impending storm. Suddenly, they’re facing the threat of closed roads and surging waters…again. Then Amaya stops responding to her phone. After all they’ve been through, she wouldn’t willfully make them worry. Would she?
And—as they promised long ago—each survivor will do whatever he or she can do to save one another. Won’t they?

(view spoiler)[ on the face of it, I don't see that they did anything wrong. they were kids and in shock. I can't imagine they could have carried anyone up the cliff or pulled them up. If more had joined them, maybe they all could have worked together but the kids themselves barely made it out. So I'm not sure why someone would be mad at them. . .with that first "then" flashback. it seems like a bad situation that they barely survived.
but I'm not sure where Amaya is (was Grace telling the truth? did she message back and say she just needed time?) and, of course, we don't know whose phone she found. . . (hide spoiler)]
nooow we're getting more info! (view spoiler)[ wow, that look back - they lost some that were saved because they sent them out. interesting. is that why they feel guilty?
I think this could be Grace. She seems to have a knack for knowing everyone's secrets but she could easily have guilted both Clara and Ian to hurt themselves. I just don't know why. To protect herself? to let go of guilt?
interesting this side of Brody. I can see why, now, why the tension with Hollis.
also, this could be Clara. They didn't find her body so she could have been waiting to get even with them - for forcing her to leave people behind (or to be a party to whatever else it is they did ).
otherwise, I'm not sure who else it could be that got them there and is now making them disappear.
I wonder if the person wanting them gone is because they don't know who is talking to the podcast people. hmmm (hide spoiler)]
(view spoiler)[ okay, now we know they started with 13 survivors but 3 or 4 were injured. they lost Jason to sending him out (he chose to go) and now we have a roaming knife. Yikes. We know that Ian called them "the eight" - so they probably lose at least 1 more of them (if they lost 3 who were injured and then Jason).
It's interesting that no one else rents this house. I wonder what that means. Who owns it? Could it be Oliver? why keep that from them?
I like how the town calls it the ghost house. Have any of them really been living their life after this event or have they all just been surviving, waiting for someone to find out their secrets.
I don't think it's Oliver but it was sketchy that he was out there. and where is Amaya? Why hasn't she come back? (hide spoiler)]
(view spoiler)[ okay, now it's sounding more like Ben was possibly stabbed? was he okay before he got there
and I'm confused who all was in which van. and did I read that they stopped to find a bathroom? We still don't know why the accident either
I don't feel like Hollis did anything bad with kicking the hand off her. She was in a fight or flight type of situation and would have acted without thought.
I still don't understand why anyone would be after them for "what they did"
they were kids in an awful situation. I wish they'd tell us more already. . . (hide spoiler)]
(view spoiler)[ okay, this update is even more confusing. So Grace blamed Ben but didn't have the knife. But he's clearly hurt later in the day/night, so did Clara stab him (she had the knife last) or did Grace take it
I've wondered if it was Grace from the beginning but now I just don't know. Who put the cameras in the house?
and why is it so sketchy that almost no one from the other van made it? They hit the water and sunk fast the other van got stuck on a tree and didn't sink. it's easy to understand why some made it out and others didn't. . .
(view spoiler)[ wow, finally the answers My book club - we kept going in circles - what caused the wreck and why do they all feel so bad? they were just children. Kids. In an impossible situation
but now we know - they knew one of them killed Ben and now WE know that Cassidy caused the accident how awful they were leaving her behind. how frightening how it all played out.
so good. I was worried about Russ initially but got distracted by Grace. such a good twist and turn of events. (hide spoiler)]
