So I really love Alice Winters's books. I like the humor so much but honestly, every book I've read has essentially the same goofy smart ass character and the not quite as goofy but equally smart assed oartner. I'm still 100%on board with her characters and writing but I'm wondering if or when I'll get tired of the formula. Although, I've also been reading the In Death series by JD Robb and 25 books into it and I'm not tired of that formula so maybe I'll never stop being a Winters fangirl.
Anyway,
"I actually have a special seat for you. See that lever on the back seat?"
I look back and see that he's talking about the one that allows the seats to fold down. "I do!"
"If you pull that, a magical hole will open up."
"I love magical books!" I exclaim.
Lmao!
So I'm not that far into the book but the VRC is an interesting department and I'm so on board with Finn and Marcus.

An ambush! I'm not quite done with this chapter but wanted to pop in and leave my thoughts before I get any further along. It's word they were ambushed. I knew Wren was an ass but that was weird, foggy. I'm loving Marcus. I also am liking Karsyn. I can't wait for his book! I really like Finn is not a perfect person. I really like characters with disabilities in my books.

I'm good with Finn being a crazy, ridiculous smart ass but Marcus doesn't work as well as the zany character and I think he'd make a better "straight man" counterpart.
I think the snark was a bit too much at times. It makes it hard to see the deeper connection between the two MC's when EVERY conversation is full of snark. I wanted a couple more meaningful conversations and a little more character depth.
You REALLY have to suspend your sense of disbelief - I mean even more than the fact that vampires exist. The police procedural aspects were so over the top ridiculous. The questioning of the suspects had me rolling my eyes so hard.
And yet despite all of that I still really did enjoy it and I like the characters. I really liked some of the secondary characters who get their own books as well.

I do really like the way they portrayed Finn and how he works to overcome his disability and be an integral part of the team.

In this book Marcus sure did change from how he was presented at first. I can see a hidden sense of humor coming from a quiet person who doesn't really interact with others much but Marcus was portrayed as a very serious humorless man and he turned into not that at all.
I'm anxious to dive into the second book to find out if there will be a conclusion to the unnamed villain.
