Wise? Probably not. That doesn't mean we won't try!

1. Did you enjoy this challenge?
Yes, this was my first team challenge.

2. Would you like to see the Roundup challenge again next year?
Absolutely !!

3. Is there anything, in particular, that you would like to "catch" in future versions?

4. What changes would you suggest?
I was not keen on color percentages on book covers ex. 50% Red. What I saw as lots of a color the app did not recognize. Other than that great! I like the same word or letter that everyone had to agree on.

5. Is there any other feedback that you would like to share?

4. What changes would you suggest?
-Honestly nothing. I love the chains and the number sequences the best.

5. Is there any other feedback that you would like to share?
-This is a fun challenge and one of my favorites.

message 6: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1987 comments 1. Did you enjoy this challenge?
Only partially, though I went into this challenge with open eyes.

2. Would you like to see the Roundup challenge again next year?
Too taxing for me and I struggled too much to find the monster specific books this time around, so it’s unlikely I join next year again.

3. Is there anything, in particular, that you would like to "catch" in future versions?
I read several references to a Golem (not really a monster but an amorphous creature in the Jewish culture) and think it could be interesting one. I’m sure there are other interesting ones in other cultures, since I’m not into monsters, I have no ideas about those. Though thinking about it now one exploring those of different cultures could perhaps tempt me a bit.

4. What changes would you suggest?
For audiobooks or ebooks in a different languages that have no page number it would be much more fair to use the primary edition/first edition with page numbers in that same language instead of the primary edition (which is usually English on GR) - English is such a succinct language that it’s usually not mirroring the page number development in others adequately (depending on author: German books +50 pages every ~100 in English, Polish +50 every ~200, an extreme example I struggled extremely with was A Promised Land 768 pages in English, 1,024 in German, even longer in Vietnamese and some Romantic languages)

5. Is there any other feedback that you would like to share?
Not yet. I’ll add if I remember it again.

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1040 comments 1. Did you enjoy this challenge?
I did! I liked the tasks (even if some were harder than others)

2. Would you like to see the Roundup challenge again next year?
Yes!

3. Is there anything, in particular, that you would like to "catch" in future versions?
How about and endangered animal theme. The dastardly poacher has captured and chained up a bunch of endangered animals and we'd have to unchain them and then get them to their proper habitat in an additional task (like a spell it out)

4. What changes would you suggest?
I don't think this is a game for a more casual reader. If someone only reads one book a week it puts a lot more pressure on the other 2 teammates to read even more. I don't want to stop someone from joining a game though but maybe if they say they are a, let's say, less than 10 book a month reader they are assigned to a Part Time Monster Hunter Team (the name is just a suggestion 😉)

One more suggestion is having a rule to help weed out flakey teammates in a more timely manner. I like the 48 hour notice Donna gives but when a teammate on my team went AWOL she went silent for about a week, as a team we tried to get ahold of her for a few days. Then we alerted Donna and when Donna got our message she messaged our missing teammate and gave her 48 hours. By the end of that it was very close to 3 weeks before we were able to get a replacement teammate (who was available right away so the time wasted was really in the time we spent waiting to see if the missing teammate was really missing.) I said all of that just to explain why I'd like to see a rule where teammates must check in with their teams every 2-3 days... just a little "Hey girl...Hey! I'm workin' on my books y'all!" is better than radio silence for a week. Of course exceptions can be made just by communicating up coming events in our lives prior to leaving off.

5. Is there any other feedback that you would like to share?
Donna once again, excellent game and thank you for being a great game moderator! Knowing you have multiple very involved games to juggle at the same time just awes me. I don't know how you do it but thank you for all the hard work.

message 8: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 1602 comments 1. Did you enjoy this challenge? Yes, I love this challenge. This was my second year participating

2. Would you like to see the Roundup challenge again next year? Yes, I wish that it was longer though.

3. Is there anything, in particular, that you would like to "catch" in future versions? See answer on question 4

4. What changes would you suggest? Open the challenge from the 1st of September to December 31st. Combine the three holidays together in the challenge and add 3 different monsters/characters from each holiday (Examples..Krampas, Santa, Bumble, a turkey, a black Friday shopper, amazon driver, in laws, pilgrims, headless horseman. )

5. Is there any other feedback that you would like to share? Partners should check in at least once a week so that the other team members know that they are still around.

I am sorry I wasn't clear about the color rule. It is always by your best judgment OR you can use the color tool. If you felt that the app was wrong then I would have accepted it. Always ask. I am here to help.

Thank you for the audio suggestion. I rarely listen to audio so that wouldn't have my attention. Sometimes you guys need to point these things out to us.

Interesting idea with the endangered species thing. I will write it down.

As for the members going AWOL, I feel your pain. I don't have a good answer for you. We have talked about it a lot. It really boils down to respect for your teammates.

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1040 comments Donna, I really like that you are open for feedback on the games you host. There's always a couple of players who find certain games are not for them and bail by going MIA rather than communicating. It's a bummer and nothing anyone can really do about it. 🤷‍♀️ In many games a one book a week reader fits nicely (The Game of Life for example). When opening up the sign up threads maybe asking everyone to mention if they want a competitive team or a more casual team for this type of game? I don't know if that would make more work for you or not.... never mind of course it would 🤦‍♂️ I don't want to make things more difficult for anyone. I'm just trying to brainstorm a bit.

I am not afraid of work. Have you noticed how many challenges I just ran at one time? 4 large challenges and that isn't counting the monthly, quarterly, and yearly ones. LOL!

I actually thought about it AFTER the challenge started. I offered it in the other version of the challenge. The Titan Monster Roundup was offered as both competitive and non-competitive.

message 15: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1040 comments GAH! I knew I should've signed up for the Titan game but was afraid of overextending myself. So I didn't even check out the thread because the temptation is for real and I'm weak.

LOL! Well, the competitive game ends soon but teams are welcome to sign up for the non-competitive version at any time. I will be running that for a while if there is interest.

Ariane | 207 comments 1. Did you enjoy this challenge?
Absolutely! This was a first for me.

2. Would you like to see the Roundup challenge again next year?
Yes!

3. Is there anything, in particular, that you would like to "catch" in future versions?

4. What changes would you suggest?
I know there isn't a good answer for this but our tastes in books were not the same in the group.
To get extra points from buddy reads, we had to go out of our comfort zone. And since this is a challenge based on reading speed, I felt pressured to read books I would read quite quickly.
Also, since I was concentrated on reading quickly, I was less involved in the buddy read topic, I could have been better at it.

5. Is there any other feedback that you would like to share?
This was fun, thank you Donna

YES, very fun
2. Would you like to see the Roundup challenge again next year?\
Yes, I'd play again
3. Is there anything, in particular, that you would like to "catch" in future versions?
sorry, I can't think of any suggestions
4. What changes would you suggest?
I enjoyed the spellouts and the ones where we had to work as a team.
5. Is there any other feedback that you would like to share?
I like this kind of challenge which forces me out of my comfort zone, I found a few new series and authors which I'm looking forward to exploring further.
Thanks for organizing such a fun challenge :)
