Cassaforte Chronicles by...um...I think it is V. Brice. I devoured all of the books and couldn't believe I'd never heard of them before. It was a random grab from my library.

Anything by B.R.Collins. She won a Stonewall prize for Love In Revolution but her others haven't got as much attention as they deserve.
