I'm the same, I remember all the books with sad endings far more vividly and I keep thinking about them for ages afterwards.

-Sofia- | 212 comments i feel like sad endings are much less predictable, so i like them better in that aspect, but happy endings all the way. sad endings would just make me cry like every day lol

message 9: by terra (new)

terra | 33 comments i like the both sad and happy ending type of books, idk if it's weird or not but it's king of refreshing

message 10: by jayy (new)

jayy | 5 comments sad endings because they have the most impact to me and leave me bawling and comtemplating life choices for the the rest of my existence

✩°。⋆。˚⋆✮Lynn✮⋆˚。⋆。°✩ Gotta love bittersweet endings.

message 12: by Kasi (last edited Nov 11, 2023 11:00PM) (new)

Kasi | 67 comments Sad endings in the first few books of the series and then a happy ending at the end of the series.

message 13: by Zack (new)

Zack (zackmaki) | 4 comments I like both however I'm often rooting for the "bad guy" in books. so it depends on how ya approach it from that point of view :P

message 14: by Annette (new)

Annette Hernandez | 202 comments bittersweet or happy endings

✮ ⋆ ˚。 ᗩᑌᗷᖇIE ⋆。°✩ | 51 comments I can’t choose! I mean happy endings are great because (usually) everything ends up okay, But sad endings seem like they stick with us more, like sad endings seem more memorable. And even though sad endings can hurt (A lot!) they still seem to be the best and most influential

C | 9 comments Ella wrote: "As much as I love happy endings, I have to admit, sad endings definitely have a stronger impression on me, even if it destroys my heart 💔"

I absolutely agree. Even if they can be harsher and harder to read they always leave a lasting impression if done correctly. Sad endings can still have very beautiful writing and important messages to bring attention to. So I prefer sad endings.

message 17: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Goldstein | 131 comments It depends on the book/series and how it is done.

message 18: by dlana (new)

dlana (purpleblooded) | 64 comments Sad endings, they make me feel much more emotions and sometimes I feel like some books that ended with happy endings should end with sad endings instead.

aria (jimin's version) (btsarmy) happy endings! sometimes sad endings but I prefer happily ever afters 🥲

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

I like both, but usually it depends on the book/series and what i feel abt it.

message 21: by Mbhabibti (new)

Mbhabibti | 8 comments Sad endings, every time. I want to be emotionally destroyed.

message 22: by Jade. (new)

Jade. (jade_chapters) definitely happy endings!

itsmanu_q ✨🖤 | 13 comments I definitely prefer happy, I think that the characters also deserve to be happy in the end.

message 28: by Alana (new)

Alana | 68 comments I prefer happy endings ☺️💗

message 29: by Skelly (new)

Skelly | 23 comments It depends on what the ending is about for me. I prefer a mixture of both. Happy and sad endings. Or both in one ending haha!

message 30: by Romina (new)

Romina Elizabeth (eliz09) reading? Happy ending always
writing? I'm sorry but I love making my character suffer lmao

message 31: by Asmar (new)

Asmar Hajizada (asmarhajizada) scared to read books with sad endings, but definitely sad or bittersweet endings, they leave a far greater impression

message 32: by Eva (new)

Eva Rose | 13 comments I don't really care tbh although sad or bittersweet endings reminds me more of real life.

message 33: by Evelyn (new)

Evelyn | 18 comments Sad endings. Especially when both characters die at the end, or only one of them does. (They Both Die at the End-The First to Die at the End) Cause I'm a depressed rat 🫶🏻

message 34: by Jolien (new)

Jolien (jolientd) | 1 comments Bittersweet endings for sure. Or a happy/neutral ending after a sad or intense plot twist. Just happy endings or happy books overall aren't really my cup of tea.

message 35: by Claudia (new)

Claudia | 2 comments 100% Happy - I can't cope with sad!

message 36: by Zoya (new)

Zoya i guess it depends on the book for me

message 37: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie Ossip | 3 comments Sad probably stays with me longer but fairly unsatisfying. Prefer happy!

Ella | 19 comments Romina wrote: "reading? Happy ending always

message 39: by Malakai (new)

message 40: by abi ౨ৎ જ⁀➴ catching up!! (last edited Jan 16, 2024 09:15PM) (new)

abi ౨ৎ જ⁀➴ catching up!! | 32 comments Happy endings definitely!!!!!

I read All the Bright Places in December last year, and I loved it ssm, but I HATED the ending because it was so sad =((

message 41: by J (new)

J B | 4 comments I tend to gravitate towards books with a happy ending. I think there are times when a bittersweet or sad ending is required. For instance, I think the rewritten ending for Great Expectations was "too happy." I prefer the original Dickens had written.

message 42: by Bailey (new)

Bailey (baileybarnes) | 635 comments Mod
I think it depends on the state of mind that I am in at the time. I like both, but sometimes I need a happy ending because of whatever is going on with me.

message 43: by Zaii (new)

Zaii I love happy endings as much as the next person, but sometimes when reading I wonder "what if everyone just d1ed and they didn't achieve anything? :)"

Nigella [Semi-Hiatus] (usershow132795844-nigella) Happy endings, FOR GOD"S SAKE. Who thought sad endings would be a good idea except to teach ppl morals?

message 45: by Kay (new)

Kay | 5 comments I really think it depends. sometimes I go into a more sad book for the real feelings, and I'll get a sad ending or even an unexpected happy ending, but I really like both sometimes, depending, so idk! it's really all up to preference in book for me too. Sometimes there's books I like the sad/happy ending, and some that I may not.

message 46: by Georgina (new)

Georgina Really tricky to decide if writing. Some tension is needed so how can there always be a happy ending. Nowadays there seems to be many more happy endings as if expected. For me depends on the situation and characters and how realistic it might be. I don't want my emotions too shattered.
