A Week in Winter - Binchy

This was classic Maeve Binchy. The series of linked short stories were full of mostly likable characters. The characters come together for the opening week of a Bed & Breakfast on the west coast of Ireland. There’s a pleasant cozy atmosphere despite a long list of differing traumas and life challenges that each character brings with them to the inn. It was easy listening and while I enjoyed it, I’m unlikely to retain many of the details.

I felt that way about most of her short story collections. I liked them but they weren’t as memorable as her best novels. I really miss her books so I will probably read it in December, just for the nostalgia of reading her again.

Yes, I have been reading her since Light a Penny Candle was a Book of the Month selection back in the 1970's. She will never win a literary prize but sometimes her books are just the right thing to read.
