Hey Y’all!

It’s that time again!

December is around the corner so if you have a suggestion for the poll that would be great.

I look forward to hearing from you 🤓🤓

Karin | 627 comments I'd love to read a holiday themed book. One of the books I've lined up for December is Toni Shiloh's You Make It Feel Like Christmas by Toni Shiloh You Make It Feel Like Christmas so I'll nominate that. It's light. I think we read one of hers before.

This will be the first year that not all of our kids will be home so something fun would be lovely.

I'm reading this one now. I love this entire series.

It's the eleventh in the series--can it stand alone? I still have the first one in my want to read shelf.

Although Beverly Jenkins does refresh her characters' history in this book, I would not recommend this one or any book in this series as a stand alone novel. I would begin with Book #1 since to learn how it all begins. Each novel has plot and subplots within them; connecting each one into such a wonderful series to follow. If you decide to read this series, I hope you do Enjoy it.

I'm so glad for your nomination. I'm picking up a copy in a couple of days. Happy Holidays to you!

Thanks--if it wins, you'll see more of me again as some things have died down a bit in my life and we've adjusted to a new normal. I'm trying to avoid heavier novels; I am reading a heavy memoir right now, but otherwise lighter fare.

Looking forward to this group read...whatever it is! I like Karin's suggestion as well.

I need to start that Beverly Jenkins series.

The only Christmas book I have on my list so far is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments I read A Christmas Carol by Dickens almost every year. It is a tradition. For some reason, it never gets old.

I am up for whatever the group decides on. I suppose I need to read book 10 before I read #11 in the Beverly Jenkins Blessings series. I was going to skip ten and do the seasonal read, but, the earlier posts are right - they most likely need to be read in order. I have gone through books1-9 so I will read #10 - an autographed copy - before the latest book which is A Christmas to Remember.

Karin | 627 comments For some reason I am not a fan of A Christmas Carol, although I used to like to watch the film on TV. I like some of Dickens' books, but overall not much of his Christmas fare. I wonder if I'd have liked it better if I'd read it as a teen--this is often the case with certain types of novels.

You're very welcome and I understand. After finishing, A Christmas to Remember by Beverly Jenkins, it really brightened my Holiday Spirit. I'm also reading A Box of Butterflies by Roma Downey. It's a Beautiful read. Enjoy and relax this Season ❤️.

I decided to mix it up and not suggest holiday themed books. Can’t wait to see what we’re reading in December 🤓

Life Is Short But Wide by J. California Cooper

This Close to Okay by Leesa Cross-Smith

message 18: by Angel (new)

Angel | 490 comments I would like to suggest the third book in the Mama Ruby series, Lost Daughters. My copy just arrived yesterday. I know it is t holiday themed. If not, maybe we could read it next month.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments I intend to read Lost Daughters very soon. I have to finish All the Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby first. This book is so good it is sickening. It is definitely going on my favorites list.

I will read whatever the group decides to read but I will be reading Lost Daughters on the side, lol.

Hey Y’all!!

I created this month’s poll, the link is below.

https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...

There was a book suggested that is #11 in the series, I didn’t add it to the poll because it’s too far in the series to catch up in a month. Sorry 😞

Happy voting 🤓🤓

Hey Y’all!

There was a tie between you make it feel like Christmas and this close to okay. Since it’s December we decided to go with the Christmas book instead of doing another poll to break the tie.

So, this month’s group read is You Make It Feel Like Christmas. I’ll send an email later today with the details.

Thanks for voting!!!

🤓🤓

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments Great! I’m looking forward to it and I think it is a nice short read.

I’ve been reading a lot of heavy stuff lately so this will be a very nice change of pace.

message 24: by Karin (last edited Dec 05, 2023 12:24PM) (new)

Karin | 627 comments I'm thankful to have a lighter read because my mother just passed away recently--I have been grieving for several years as her dementia progressed. I'm dedicating all December reading to her because she was an avid reader as long as she was able to read.

She was the one who taught me about civil rights; she was very much into social justice.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments I’m sorry for your loss Karin. I lost my mother to Alzheimer’s disease. It is very hard.

Since the Christmas book is a short read, I’m going to create a thread for runner up.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments I was thinking we could finish up with Mama Ruby #3 -The Lost Daughters. Have we read the first two in this group? My mind is so bad. My reading challenge was 64 books. So far I am up to 80 and counting.

message 29: by Angel (new)

Angel | 490 comments I’m gonna have to skip this month’s selection. I am still trying to finish Mama Ruby, Cicely Tyson and Kitty Carr!😂 I will use this month to catch up hopefully, though the holidays also make it hard for me to catch up on reading… but I haven’t given up yet!

message 30: by Angel (new)

Angel | 490 comments Dosha we read The Upper Room, Mama Ruby and Lost Daughters will be the final in this series.

I wasn’t really too keen on reading lost daughters so soon but the other book is on hold for ten weeks at my library 🤦🏾‍♀️. So I’ll just create a thread for the last mama Ruby book, I’m just ready to get it over with because Ruby was way too much for me lol. I’m hoping these daughters aren’t as crazy as Ruby.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments We certainly do not need to go to the daughters. I’m happy to go with the flow. Any other suggestions?
