Now that we are all (I think) officially in December, let's share our plans for 2024!

Countries, titles, numbers, even just seeking recommendations. What's on your mind so far?

I've had a couple of ideas bubbling away these past few weeks. Overall though, my main plan is to not overcommit like I usually do!

1. I'd like to plug a few large or obvious holes in my ATW map - I'm considering Algeria, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Oman and Papua New Guinea.

2. I'll try to contribute at least 2 more reads to the Group Challenge (rolling over into 2024).

3. For years I've been collecting recommendations from my GR Friend Request challenge question. I've picked out many that I actually want to read, and some of the titles relevant to this Group include:

India - Third-class Ticket
World - The Historian
Italy - The Villa in Italy
Indonesia - The Birdwoman's Palate
China - The Far Side of the Sky
Iceland - Names for the Sea: Strangers in Iceland
Myanmar - The Art of Hearing Heartbeats
Canada - Cat's Eye
Germany - Stasiland: Stories from Behind the Berlin Wall
Iran - Daughters of Smoke and Fire
India - The God of Small Things
PNG - Euphoria

That's my starting point. I usually try to read about 30 books for this Group, and that's pretty comfortable for me.

Thanks for this Andrea. How is it December 2023 already?!

My 2024 travels around the world will be rather random as in past years. I’ll also probably add a few books for the group challenge: To the Finish Line for Jenny since I completed the books I pledged to read for the challenge in 2023.

Diana (secondhandrose) | 26 comments I'm thinking I'll read by regions - e.g Africa or Oceania and work through the countries list . Once I've got myself organised I'll post my plans.
I already belong to Reading Paris and Japanese Literature groups here so I usually read a book a month for those groups.
Along with a few randomly selected books that will cover other countries.

Browsing through our Resources folder, I was reminded of the Eurovision book list. There are 37 titles, which is a pretty manageable size. I couldn’t do it all in one year though (might have trouble getting hold of some books) but I think I can turn this into an ongoing challenge. So far I’ve read 5 and I have 2 more on my TBR already, so I will add those 2 books to my plan for this year to get it underway.

Italy - My Brilliant Friend
Poland - Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead

writer... (goodreadscomwriter) | 10 comments A lot of my World reading results from WW novels. Perhaps this year I will be more intentional in my book choices ;))

Love This!

Diana (secondhandrose) | 26 comments I'm starting with Oceania. I'm doing this in tandem with the Read Around the World Challenge which stipulates your author must be from that country. This site has a really handy guide to books by authors from all the different countries of the world.

I'll update as I track down and read titles

Australia -
Fiji -
Kiribati -
Marshall Islands -
Micronesia -
Nauru -
New Zealand -
Palau -
Papua New Guinea -
Samoa -
Solomon Islands -
Tonga -
Tuvali -
Vanuatu -

Diana (secondhandrose) | 26 comments I don’t know if my Oceania strategy will fly. I’ve just picked up a German translation set in Africa and Europe and a Spanish translation set in the Hindu Kush (Afghanistan, Pakistan and Tajikistan.) I also have a library book set in India. I might just do random countries and see how I go.
