Thoughts on the ending?

I was obsessed with this book and enjoyed that it was longer than average; therefore, I had more time to enjoy it. Until I got to the ending, with a major cliffhanger and no Book 2 on the horizon. I was po'd with disappointment, more so when there were no sequels listed. I've read many Nora Roberts series, and have never run across a cliffhanger, so it didn't occur to me to look. It seems ludicrous that an author of her stature and longevity would need to resort to something like this to ensure more book sales. Or, was the book so good because she didn't leave out any minute details, thereby necessitating the long story carry over into additional volumes?

I agree with you on this Sherry, the ending was disappointing for sure! I've read a lot of Nora Roberts books in my younger years and have picked this book up recently for a bit of nostalgic reasons and was overall highly disappointed - it didn't give me the same feelings as before. However it could be that my preferences/genres have evolved.

I wasn't disappointed with the book as a whole. I am just disappointed that Nora Roberts planned on leaving the audience with such a LOOOOONG cliffhanger (the second book is due to be released on November 19, 2024).
If an author plans on writing books that are to be part of a series, I do not believe they should make their audience wait months for the second one.

I agree I finally Igot around to reading identity. And I loved it right up till the moment I realized she wasn't going to give us an ending. I don't recall her ever doing that before. Of course I did not read her series about the plague. She might've done it there, I no longer feel safe by roberts because I hate cliffhanger endings
I think books with cliffhanger endings ought to come with a warning
Morning, you will not see the rest of the story for one year. And then you can wait another year for the next part.
