I haven't been able to read much since going back to work and taking on the role of PTA President at my kids' school, but I loved The Henna Artist and The Secret Keeper of Jaipur by Alka Joshi.

StarMan (thestarman) | 1942 comments Thanks, Erin & Candace. Those are some good titles to peruse.

If I had to pick the best 3 reads from my favorite genre (Science Fiction):

Star Songs of an Old Primate by James Tiptree Jr. / Alice Bradley
Expendable by James Alan Gardner
Arkhangelsk by Elizabeth.H. Bonesteel

Pien | 601 comments I loved A gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles and Piranesi by Susanna Clarke best. Really amazing books (although Peranesi is not everybody’s favourite!)

Candace (candywilliams) | 491 comments STARMAN, I loved the title, Star Songs of an Old Primate.

PIEN, I also loved A Gentleman in Moscow, too and would have picked it, but I read it last year or maybe earlier.

Pien | 601 comments I put all your favorites on my tbr for Christmas, so thanks! Looking at the books I read this year, there’s some among the first ones I don’t even remember! (The title still sounds familiar, but what it’s about??) It’s like a new book erases an old one, well, apart from the best ones. Am I the only one forgetting so easily?

You’re not the only one!

I don't usually enjoy historical fiction, but I gave 'A Gentleman in Moscow,' 4+ stars for the genre, bumped to 5 for Goodreads, when I read it a couple of years ago.

I started the Murderbot series this year, and they've all been 5 star reads for me.
My first (non-Murderbot) 5 star read was Remarkably Bright Creatures back in April. Candace is spot on. It was superb.
In June, I read A Closed and Common Orbit, which is defo up there. In my review, I wrote Becky Chambers writes science fiction for the soul. It's such a lovely story about being, belonging, and friendship.
Then in July I read White Teeth and was so surprised. I had no idea what it was about, but I was not prepared for how cutting, funny, insightful, real, and frustrating it could be. Very well written.
And for a best read of a book originally published in 2023, Demon Copperhead was pretty damn good.

Candace (candywilliams) | 491 comments Oh yeah, I need to read Demon Copperhead. Ahem, I want credit for saying Remarkable bright Creatures was superb! 🥰
