The only other non re-read 5 star books were short stories and a couple of mid-series Orphan X books.

I wasn't expecting to love that series as much as I do, and I couldn't tell you why I love it so much, but I do, lol.
Hope you'll enjoy it too. 😁
ETA: I thought the first book was great, but on the whole it's one of those series that just gets better. I'm generally stingy with my 5 star ratings, but several in the series ended up with exactly that.

Glad we share "Anything you can imagine" in our top books for 2023. :)

had spent some time this morning picking favourites from 2023,
and landed on 16 books out of 51 five star ratings
guess I'm going to have to get serious,
how to pick just 10...?

I've read the top 3 and I agree with you - wonderful books!

1st Place: Home Fire, by Kamila Shamsie - I have mixed feelings about this book, but they are mostly very intense, like anger, sadness, amazement.
2nd Place: The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins - This was probably the 4th time I had read this book, and it is still one of my favorites.
3rd Place: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, by J.K. Rowling - J.K. is for me one of the most genius authors, and the 3rd book of Harry Potter series is just fantastic!
4th Place: Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, by Fannie Flagg - Fannie Flag is the queen of the timeline. And her book, as the film, brought me a lot of joy.
5thPlace: Verity, by Colleen Hoover - It has been months, and I still think about Verity quite often.
6th Place: Homegoing, by Yaa Gyasi - The princess of timeline has arrived!
7th Place: Assassinato no Expresso do Oriente, by Agatha Christie - This is your majesty herself, and this book is simply fantastic.
8th Place: The Beekeeper of Aleppo, by Christy Lefteri - This is one of those books that give you a lot to think about. Specially your privileges.
9th Place: Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time, by Dava Sobel - One of the most interesting Biographies I have ever read. More people should read about who was John Harrison.
10th Place: The Henna Artist, by Alka Joshi - This book made me travel to India, just with the way the story was narrated by its author.

Bel Canto - Ann Patchett
On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous - Ocean Vuong

The aCovenant of Water - Abraham Verghese
Demon Copperhead - Barbara Kingsolver
A Children’s Bible - Lydia Millet
