The prologue was so captivating and very promising. I had such high hopes going into the book after the first ten pages or however long that was, but everything that came after that was so mundane in comparison that it was kind of a let down. The book focused mostly on Dr. Wallis’s romantic life (I didn’t sign up to read a romance novel) and when the author did talk about the test subjects it was long pages of “...she continued to read and he continued to watch TV…” or very short sections of out of the ordinary things(view spoiler) that they breeze past.

I was expecting the book to reflect more of the “murder, self-mutilation, and madness” based on the supposed experiment in 1954, but those horrors were limited in the book. I don’t know if this is because there were only two test subjects in the experiment or if the author had other goals with the book.

The ending was horrid. (view spoiler)
