Welcome to HRBC's 7th Annual series reading challenge: Mad About series Challenge - 2024

Challenge yourself to read or finish as many Series as you like. The point is to see the series through, but where you begin for the challenge is up to you (for example, I'm starting #1 on one of my series and on book 3 of 4 for another because I've read the first 2).

RULES
- The Series read/completed from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024 will be counted.
- Series may have any number of books.
- Inclusion/Exclusion of Prequels ( i.e. #0.5, #0.6) is participant's choice.
- Choose a level and create a post in this thread to serve as your tracking post. Don't forget to keep them up to date. Feel free to provide your star ratings in the post as well.
- Participants can change their level at any time during the challenge.
- BOTM and other Challenge cross- overs are acceptable.

I've finished my third series for the year, and well into my fourth series. Yay! So far I'm doing much better with this challenge than I did last year.

I just finished Carolyn Jewel's Reforming the Scoundrels series. Ok, it only has two books, LOL. There was supposed to be a third called Not Sinful Enough, but it's listed on Ms Jewel's website as 'in progress' in 2017. Hmmm. Looks like it's not going to happen. A shame. I liked both books. Quite steamy, but great characters and interesting plots.

I'm about to start #6 in Eloisa James' Desperate Duchesses series. I feel like I'm late to the party and everyone has read these but me. But I'm enjoying them now anyway.

I'm a sucker for series as well as the next person, but what's wrong with authors these days, all series have a huge number of books, some with more than 9!! How do we read all of them?!

Yeah, I would prefer a spin-off series to a long list of books in one series. I can do five or six books in a series in a row. More than that and I have to take a break and split it up.

Do you believe I saw one series with 29 books?! :D

I think it would be too much to finish a series with that amount of books. Would have to do it over two years probably 😂😂😂

I have 3 books left to read in the Malory series. 12 books in all. I am reading That Perfect Someone book 10 .

Wow Shaz. 12 is a lot. I do like longer series, although maybe not quite that long LOL. I usually have to take a break between some of the books when reading them back-to-back. My ideal series length is probably about 6-8 books.

I have just finished my 4th series for this challenge, Desperate Duchesses by Eloisa James. It's actually kinda split into two - 6 books for the main series, then three more for Desperate Duchesses By the Numbers, which is next gen, about some of the kids from the first series. I finished all 9 books and really liked the whole lot. And I've still got plenty more other Eloisa James books I haven't yet read. Yay! I might try Wilde In Love next.

Starting the last book in the Malory series today. Beautiful Tempest. It’s James Malory , daughter Jacqueline story.
This is my second read of this series,and is still a favourite and a keeper.
I am also a fan of Eloisa James. Read the Desperate Duchess’s series and two of the by number books. Some years back. Another favourite series for me.

I also have break’s in between. When reading long series. Only had one break in this series. Those Malory brothers just pull you in 😂 love the relationship between them.

This series does need to be read in order to understand the strong relationship that all the family have.

Glad you're enjoying the series all over again. It's good to revisit old favs isn't it? I agree about reading series in order - it 's usually the best way to get the most out of it. I tried reading a random one of the Desperate Duchess books a while ago and just didn't get it or enjoy it, but now I've read them all in order and really enjoyed them. So much better that way.

Yay finished my fifth series, The Essex Sisters by Eloisa James. Four books. I liked it. Somehow my love of historical romance has really rekindled in 2024, and I'm reading and enjoying lots!

Apparently there is a novella that's kinda connected to the Essex Sisters series, so I'm going to pick that up soon. A Gentleman Never Tells

I read this series many years ago. I have always liked Eloisa James writing, it has humour. Which I do like in a story . Especially when I go into a reading slump.

Yay! I finished my 6th series, The Survivors' Club by Mary Balogh. I have to admit, I had already read most of the books before this year, and only had two novels and a novella to go, which I have now finished. The final one was Only a Kiss, which I really enjoyed and gave 4 stars.


For some reason, I'm on a real HR kick this year. I have read a lot more HRs than usual, and loving it :)
