What books are you especially looking forward to reading in 2024? They could be new books coming out then or something you've been holding onto for a while.

message 2: by Laura (new)

Laura B This is the first time I will participate in the Challenge since I just learned about it a couple of weeks ago. There are several on my TBR for years now, and first thing I'm going to read (and really looking forward to) is a book that's been out it for a while now, The Color Purple. It's the first book that I'll start on Jan. 1st (I'm not following the prompts chronologically, as I want the freedom to pick what book I will read that week or read 2 books in one week).

I've been trying to organize my books I plan on reading for the Challenge per prompt (I'm a list person), and I just want to start reading them now, but am forcing myself to wait until Jan. 1st. Looking forward to tackling my TBR list. So, I've contented myself on finishing some classics until the ending of 2023.

Just in time to see the movie musical of The Color Purple! I saw it as a stage musical a few years ago. It has a different tone from the book but is good in its own way.

Joyce | 600 comments I’m chuffed to see there is a new Tale of the City coming out: Mona of the Manor

Sibylle | 146 comments I'm looking forward to
Relight My Fire
- it's such a fun series.

Also What Feasts at Night. Really want to read more about the main character of that series. Love T. Kingfisher, especially her more humorous books.

There are lots of books on my tbr... it will be a great reading year, I'm sure!

I'm going to try to be better at reading books off my ever-increasing TBR, rather than buying as many new ones next year!

message 9: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 60 comments Only one on my TBR for 2024, that I am anticipating, is The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo

message 10: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3837 comments Lots but one in particular- The Road to Roswell by Connie Willis. I read the preview on Libby and it’s pretty funny!

I love Connie Willis and am also looking forward to that one.

Probably my most anticipated is My Favorite Thing Is Monsters, Vol. 2. I LOVED the first volume which was published in 2017 and I have been eagerly awaiting the second volume ever since. It's just kept getting pushed back, again and again. But it has been announced that it will definitely be getting released this coming April! If you haven't read it, it's a really powerful graphic novel about a girl growing up in 1960s Chicago and the life of her neighbor, a holocaust survivor.

message 13: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 2083 comments I have 33 books that will be published next year by authors/series I follow, but the ones I'm looking forward to the most is probable Winter Lost and the new Ilona Andrews book/series start.

Of the other books I'm planning to read, I'm probably looking forward to the rest of T. Kingfisher's books. I've read and loved 2 of her books so far, so I'm anticipating good things.

Dixie (dixietenny) | 1080 comments Pam wrote: "Lots but one in particular- The Road to Roswell by Connie Willis. I read the preview on Libby and it’s pretty funny!"

Absolutely this one!

Also looking forward to the spring release of Red Side Story the long-awaited sequel to Jasper Fforde's Shades of Grey.

I am looking forward to Tom Lake, The River We Remember, and The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store, hopefully in the next month or so. I own them already.

I am on the library waiting list for the newest Heartstoppers book, and I am eager to see what comes next in the Cormoran Strike series, since it ended on an emotional cliffhanger. That probably won't be till fall.

Laura B Robin, I remember liking the movie but had no idea they were making a musical. thanks for letting me know, I will look out for it.

Laura wrote: "Robin, I remember liking the movie but had no idea they were making a musical. thanks for letting me know, I will look out for it."

There was the book, the non-musical movie by Spielberg, then a stage musical and now a movie of the stage musical or at least based on it.

message 18: by Kat (new)

Kat | 565 comments I've made a list of books I already own that I definitely want to read next year. Some of them have been on my shelf/kindle for years so I need to avoid the shiny new things and focus on those. I'm sure something will pop up that distracts me but hopefully I can stay focused.

I'm at the point in my reading life where I've given up on a lot of series and don't pay too much attention to what's coming out until it's actually out.

message 19: by Paula (new)

Paula (hairballsrus) | 3 comments Red side Story by Jasper Fforde is absolutely the story I'm most excited to read. I've been waiting for many, many years!

message 20: by Denise (new)

Denise | 523 comments I am looking forward to some not-well -known books I own:

1. Hemingway's cats, a fictionalization of the Hemingway manor and its 6-toed cats
2. Two collections of baseball essays: The Only Way Is the Steady Way and The Utility of Boredom
3. Great Short Books
4. Re-reading Little Women

Me, too! Connie Willis is so clever.

I like her non-silly books, too. I got started reading her with Doomsday Book. That one was a 5-star read for me.

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3837 comments Looking forward to the new release Wandering Stars by Tommy Orange and Table for Two by Amor Towles.

Yes, Doomsday book is outstanding. Also the Blackout/All Clear duology, (is that the right word for 2 books?) even for me who insists I am tired of WWII books.

message 24: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Quite a lot by Jack Jordan

message 25: by Marie (new)

Marie | 1060 comments Very excited for The Fragile Threads of Power, V.E. Schwab is probably my favourite current author and I've been on the wait list for this at the library for what feels like an eternity, so I'll be reading out of order as soon as I can.

I'm eager to get to Terry Pratchett: A Life With Footnotes: The Official Biography by Rob Wilkins, but not sure I'm emotionally ready. Terry Pratchett is my all-time favourite author, and it still makes me sad that he's gone.

Also looking forward to Starter Villain by John Scalzi. I've never read any of his before, but I love the premise and I know we're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but this one is so good!

I got Starter Villain for Christmas. It looks like it's a short read.

Hee hee - you let us know how that works out for you! :) I am trying to pull all of next year's challenge from my TBR. We'll see...... ;)

I am also a Connie Willis fan. I also started with Doomsday Book. I have read two others by her. She lives about an hour and a half north of me. I will have to check out her new book!

I am looking forward to several that are coming out in 2024 - You Like It Darker by Stephen King; House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas; A Vicious Game by Melissa Blair; The Eternal Ones by Namina Forna; and the next Empyrean book by Rebecca Yarros are all books coming out in 2024. I very excited for all of them!

I just bought Making It So: A Memoir by Patrick Stewart, and I am a huge fan, so I am excited to read it. I am also planning on focusing on my own spirituality (something that needs some focus!) this year, and I also just bought Wholehearted Faith by Rachel Held Evans. I read one of her other books, and I loved it, so I am hoping this one is as good! I did the #20BooksByBlackWomen challenge in 2022 and decided to do a #20BooksByIndigenousWomen challenge in 2023. I loved them both, so I have decided to do a #20BooksByLatinaAuthors for 2024. I haven't decided what books to read yet, but planning is almost half the fun! :)

Heather Whaley (hlwhaley413) | 2 comments I’m really hoping the 8th book with the Cormoran Strike series will be released in 2024. I bought Cuckoo’s Calling on a whim and have been hooked ever since.
