Not every book I read has a Goodreads page, since some are web novels without ISBNs, so I'll be keeping track of those here as needed. Quarter 1 UpdateI'm doing quite well with my reading this year and am at 40 books read so far, of which 25 have been TBR books. I've finished 1 book in Korean, 28 (!) in Japanese (16 manga and 12 novels), and 11 in English. As usual, I'm mainly reading fantasy, with a smattering of various other genres. My new-to-me vs. reread ratio is around 2:1. Overall, I'd say my reading this year is going quite well.
In quarter 2, I'd like to increase the amount of English books I'm reading, but I'm not sure that's doing to happen since I'm in the middle of binge reading a very long light novel series in Japanese. I'd also like to read more TBR books and read some of the books I've purchased this year (mainly manga).
My favorite standalone book I've read this year has been Lady Tan's Circle of Women by Lisa See.
Quarter 2 UpdateWell, this quarter went pretty well! I've finished 95 books this year. Of those, 33 were TBR books, which is about 33%! I've read 24 books in English, 64 books in Japanese (23 novels, 41 manga), 3 books in Mandarin (2 novels, 1 manhua), 3 books in Korean (1 nonfiction, 2 novels), and 1 book in Spanish.
While I did double my books read in English from 11 to 24, English books are still only about 25% of my books read this year. With that being said, I've also spent time doing academic reading in English this year for sure.
While I didn't do much Japanese reading in June, I did do lots in April and May. I hope to continue reading my way through my manga backlog for the next two to three months as time and energy permit.
I'm also pleased to have read a bit in Mandarin and Korean, which I'm less proficient in (but, of course, have massive want to read lists in, haha).
Books I've enjoyed this quarter include:
- the Kamisama Kiss (神様はじめました) manga series,
- the Ascendance of a Bookworm (本好きの下剋上) light novels,
- Katie Quinn and Julie Chang's The Phoenix Crown,
- Your Memes are Better Looking than You (你的表情包比本人好看), - Across the World to You (세계를 건너 너에게 갈게),
- The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot,
- The Girls in Little Red Riding Hoods' Woods (赤ずきんの森の少女たち).
Some are actual titles, some are arbitrary translations.
In quarter 3, I hope to continue reading books that I enjoy. Bonus points if I already own them!
Quarter 3 UpdateQuarter 3 went well, per usual, as it mostly took place in the summer time. My total books read have climbed from 95 to 143. They've mostly been in the fantasy genre (92). About half of my books read so far have come from either my TBR pile or the library.
As for the language breakdown, 39 books have been in English (27%), as with my last update. 94 in Japanese (66%), 4 in Mandarin, 5 in Korean, and 2 in Spanish.
