Blessing recently did a two week turnaround read of my 90k Romantasy and her feedback was INCREDIBLE. Reading her "readers notes" felt like debriefing each chapter over a glass of wine with a friend. Her thoughts were honest, insightful, and caught so many things I hadn't. I got a very clear picture of how a reader was absorbing my story, and how the characters came alive to her.

I’m only writing reviews for beta readers that I think authors will benefit from hiring, as I have worked with a lot of beta readers in this group and I want to rave about the ones who earned a five-star rating from me. And it’s not because they liked my story or were just telling me what I want to hear (far from it) it’s because they actually did their job and were constructive yet kind. Blessing has done her job and is a high-quality beta reader. She has delivered so much more than some beta readers I’ve come across who have more years of experience. For example, she provides in-line comments that are detailed and on almost every page. I can tell she’s actually reading the book instead of trying to skim. She gets the job done and makes my job so much more fun by her commentary.
When I hire a beta reader, that’s what I’m looking for. I’m looking for an authentic experience as if they picked up the book from a bookstore and sat at home to enjoy it. I want all the entertaining comments, the anger, shock, etc. And Blessing delivers that, and it’s SO helpful.
She provides extremely detailed chapter by chapter feedback and recalls details that I didn’t even remember, even if they are split one hundred pages apart. She has a knack for spotting plot holes, but she does it in a funny way that I think readers in the “real world” would pick up and react on so it makes it easier to fix.
One of my biggest frustrations with hired beta readers is when they make the comments “readers will think this, readers will think that, readers won’t like this character talking, etc.” as if they can speak for all readers. I never get a sense of what they actually think of the book because they’re too busy telling me what other readers would think, as if they can read minds and know one hundred readers’ opinions. It’s very unhelpful.
Blessing doesn’t do that! She speaks for herself, doesn’t hold back or silence her voice in favor of “other readers” and I LOVE it. It’s so helpful for me to see how SHE’s reacting to the story and only her. She doesn’t bring any outside opinions, and that’s exactly how it should be because that’s how readers read! She takes the role “beta reader” seriously by making such entertaining comments, giving characters nicknames, using emojis. But she’s extremely professional with her delivery even when she’s confused about something or doesn’t like something. For example, she was confused about certain character decisions but she wrote it in such a kind way I couldn’t help but fix it just because I felt bad I disappointed such a kind person. But that’s what makes my job easier and how I have improved my writing skills!
I can tell she loves her job and she went above and beyond for me. My story doesn’t operate on any western storytelling structures and she took the time to read an article I sent her to understand my structure better. I can’t express how much that means to me. She’s open-minded and answered all my follow up emails and questions, so she’s dedicated to helping you succeed with your vision. She also helped me with my target audience and how I should market the book. She’s definitely getting acknowledged in my book for being such an authentic beta reader.
Please authors, hire her if you want a true reader’s reaction that will make you feel more confident about your book! She’s amazing and gives extremely detailed feedback and goes above and beyond.
