4. -- “We Didn’t Start the Fire” hit #1 in 1989. In it, Joel rattles off a list of historical references in order to argue that his generation — as the title says — didn't “start the fire” of global tragedy, scandal, and screw-ups. ”We didn't start the fire/It was always burning, since the world's been turning/We didn't start the fire/No, we didn't light it, but we tried to fight it” —

5. -- In 1990, “The Downeaster’Alexa’” was released and peaked at #57 on US charts. It describes the plight of fishermen in the Northeast United States amongst the challenges of overfishing and global warming. “I was a bayman like my father was before/Can't make a living as a bayman anymore/There ain't much future for a man who works the sea/But there ain't no island left for islanders like me.” As April 22 is Earth Day, this seems a fitting fifth challenge. —

Your host being a life-long fan, she thought she could have some fun with this — and found it difficult to narrow down the possibilities to just five, but persevered in the end.
