GenreçScience fiction book from the 1970s - 1980s.
Plot: An extraterrestrial arrives on Earth as a guest of a group of men and women.
He integrates well into this group.
He was thin and becomes robust.
One of the guests observes: "I told him to grow and he grew very soon"
He interacts with various girls from the group.
He is capable of making objects disappear.
He gets engaged to one of the girls and becomes an illusionist.

Are you referencing Stranger in a Strange Land?

This kind of happens in the book (calling him extraterrestrial isn't wrong, but seems misleading), but that isn't how I would describe the plot.

I read an abstract of the title you suggest and it looks like it is the one I'm looking for.
I read it some 50 years ago, so I'missing some details.
I'll read it and let you know if it matches.

Dead on target: I'm one third through it and it is definitely it. By the way, I managed to get a revised later edition that is the "author cut". The author was asked to aggressively reduce the first manuscript to improve sell-ability in the first editions. Several years later, after the author was passed, the owners of the rights asked to publish the original version of the book.
