I like your list. I want to read more Octavia Butler. I'll also be interested to see what you think of This is How You Lose the Time War. I read it just recently and thought it was quite different. Enjoy all of your selections. Happy New Year.

Karen (readerkaren) | 143 comments Thanks, Bill. I am looking forward to reading Octavia Butler, as well. Some of these books have been gathering dust on my shelf for too long.

Karen (readerkaren) | 143 comments I loved Kindred. I can't believe I never read it before and I never read anything by Octavia Butler before. Wow. So amazing.

Oh, I'm so glad you loved it too. I just finished reading Parable of the Sower by Butler, and I thought it was good too. And a great book to read, since it was written in 1993, but set in the future of 2024!

message 14: by Karen (new)

Karen (readerkaren) | 143 comments Wow! I am going to read that soon!!

Karen (readerkaren) | 143 comments I'm starting to think about my list for next year. Is that a weird thing to admit?

In this group, not at all. I can't wait to see that list!

Only that you started so late. Hahaha! I'll admit that I almost always have a rolling list going, just waiting until the deadline for me to make all final decisions. Enjoy making your selections - I can't wait to see what you pick.

At least you all admit it! 🙄🤦🏾

....*waits for Lea and Alissa*...

Karen (readerkaren) | 143 comments Funny, ok. Well. This weekend, I was trying to decide what books I really don't think I will be able to read by the end of the year...after I went book shopping and added to my pile.

message 21: by Karol (new)

Karol | 745 comments I'm also thinking about what I'll read next year, as I work on completing this year's challenges! I might opt for a fewer number of books, and have a Tome challenge for some of the things I would really like to get to but have shied away from this year due to their length.

Fortunately, we have a few months to get it figured out!

message 22: by Karen (new)

Karen (readerkaren) | 143 comments Thanks for your thoughts, Karol. I have a few books that I shied away from because of their length. I have been leisurely reading the Shorter Diary of Virginia Woolf, which is not actually short. Since the complete diary set is five volumes, the one I am reading is the condensed edition. That's the only tome I see finishing this year.

Five volumes! Wow - that definitely would take commitment but I'd guess it is quite interesting.

Karen (readerkaren) | 143 comments I finally read The Imaginary Girlfriend, John Irving's memoir, and I know what the title means. Finally! I have one more of the original 12 to read and 9 days to do it. Fingers crossed.

message 29: by Karen (new)

Karen (readerkaren) | 143 comments Thanks! It has truly been an all-year effort. At the beginning of the year, I had plans to zip through these books and move on, but it just didn't happen.

message 30: by Karen (new)

Karen (readerkaren) | 143 comments yay! I finished my 12th book (The Last Romantics) and it was one of my favorite reads of the year. I am carrying over the backup books that I didn't finish this year as motivation to read them next year.
