Michelle | 2650 comments Another question. Just need clarification of #6 what does meet cute mean? Is it just and interesting way they met or is it cute how they met? Not a term I've heard before.

message 21: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11210 comments Mod
Michelle - a lot of the romance suspense some of us have been reading lately (thinking of the Buchanan/Renard series buddy read) always feature the hero & heroine meeting in some cute, sweet, or unique way. If you find it interesting, intriguing, or think the way they meet is cute or sweet, it will count. This one is open for your interpretation. Romance & Rom-Coms often have what I call "meet-cutes".

message 22: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2650 comments Thank you Sandra. I mean it is in the directive. But I thought I'd rather ask for clarification.. Cute was my stumbling block. I had a ook that was interesting how they met but is it cute? But then that book was for my awards nominations. 🤷🤦🏻
Hate when I have to pick which one I'd use it for. But I'm sure I'll find another for meet cute.

message 23: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11210 comments Mod
Michelle - any first meeting between the hero & heroine, even one after it's been years since they saw one another, will count. I think the word "cute" is misleading. I could have worded it better! If it catches your attention, it counts. :)

On #38 does the unlikeable protagonist have to be the main character or can it be a supporting character or enemy?

By definition, the protagonist is a main character.

Sigh... That does make it harder since I usually avoid reading books about main characters that I dislike. I'll see what I can find. Thanks.

Judy - 'unlikeable" doesn't necessarily mean one that YOU dislike. It could be a main character who isn't liked much by other characters or one who is generally disliked at first, but redeems themselves. If that makes any sense! lol It doesn't have to be a character you hate...no one likes to read books like that.

Thanks. That makes it easier.

Michelle | 2650 comments I have a question about #28. Debut novel.
Does have to be the first book an author wrote or could it be the first book of a series?
#1 is first or last book in a series so how does debut novel differ from First book?

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11210 comments Mod
Debut usually refers to the first book an author writes. So it can be the first book in a series IF it's the very first book published by the author. If that makes sense...

That's just my take on debut novel. :)

message 34: by Michelle (last edited Jul 19, 2024 01:17PM) (new)

Michelle | 2650 comments Thank you Sandra.
I also thought that's what it means but I thought I'd ask. As I said I'm desperate 😂 😂

All my authors, even the new to me ones aren't debuting

Michelle - Is there a chance there's an author whose books you've read and enjoyed but you haven't read all of them and maybe you haven't read their very first book written? That's a possibility for a "debut" novel.

message 36: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2650 comments Sandra I just looked through my books. I actaully have a book but the version I read was re-issued and was part of a boxset.

A few author have done that. Re issued and changed the name.

That’s fine, Michelle. Another idea is to reread a first book by one of your favorite authors.
