Ioana | 2122 comments Love your list. I've read All the Ugly and Wonderful Things (can't wait to hear your thoughts on it), enjoyed The Queen's Gambit and loved A Higher Call. I have a few others on my TBR, and I hope to get to them soon, but who knows?
Happy reading!

Lea (leaspot) | 3629 comments Denise, I just finished reading Killing the Witches. Just so you know, the first half of the book is about the witch trials that we know about, and then the author takes what I felt was a bit of a tangent. It isn't my favorite from him, but I'm not mad at it either. See what you think. I'm in the middle of Fourth Wing right now and I've read All the Ugly and Wonderful Things (this would make a good discussion book) and The Queen's Gambit, which I liked. Looking forward to seeing what you think! :-)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Finished All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood , gave it 4 stars. Liked the book but had a hard time with the story. I was skeptical about reading this book knowing that it was about and at times I was uncomfortable with the details of a minor being intimate with an older male. I think the writing was well paced but the story pushes the boundaries with a taboo subject. Overall I enjoyed the book, it forced me out of my comfort zone.

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Finished Tears of the Giraffe (No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, #2) by Alexander McCall Smith , gave it 4 stars. I was drawn into this series from the first book and this one did not disappoint. It had the same clever humor, intriguing characters that are well developed and two intriguing cases to solve. I really like the main character Mma Ramotswe and how realistic she is. Will definitely be continuing this series.

I love this series and need to get back to it. The TV series was excellent but unfortunately only was one season. The books always make me feel good.

The series is fantastic! Love Mme Ramotswe as well. I’ve gone the route of audiobooks and the narrator does not disappoint. Have about 7 more in the series and I was feeling sad till I saw that he’s written a number of short stories in that world.

message 24: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Completed Walk the Blue Line They Walk the Line between Life and Death by James Patterson , gave it 4 stars.
I enjoyed this book very much. Each story was about the day in the life of each officer and range from regular beat cops, state troopers, ATF, FBI Agents and SWAT. The stories make you realize that there are many more good cops out there than bad ones, and they all deserve our respect for putting their lives in danger everyday just to protect us.

message 25: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Completed Euphoria by Lily King , gave it 3 stars.
To me it was an ok book. I have enjoyed books by Lily King in the past but this one just seemed to drag on and at times was confusing as to what was going on.

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments FInished The Queen's Gambit by Walter Tevis , gave it 4 stars. I really enjoyed this book. I have never played chess so some of the talks about chess moves was a little over my head.

I didn't realize it was a book. I've had Mockingbird by Tevis on my bookshelf for awhile now. Maybe I should check him out.

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Bill I enjoyed the book, not a chess person myself so some of it was over my head but overall a good book. Going to look at the library to see if they have a copy of the mini series that Netflix released.

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Well half way done with this list. Finished Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry , gave it 4 stars. It just so sad that yet another star fell victim to addiction. All the money he had and he just couldn't kick the habit.

message 33: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Finished Tom Lake by Ann Patchett , gave it 4 stars. I really enjoyed Meryl Streep narrating this book.

message 34: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Finished The Little Liar by Mitch Albom , gave it five stars. I have always loved Mitch Albom's books and this one did not disappoint. There is always an underlining message in each of his stories. Definitely need to read this one if you are a fan of this author.

You are killing this list, Denise!! Woot!!

message 36: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Finished Killing the Witches The Horror of Salem, Massachusetts by Bill O'Reilly , gave it 3 stars. Not one of my favorites by this author. I enjoyed the first section but felt like it was a bunch of facts just narrated and rattled off. The middle section I didn't understand why it was even part of this book. Overall I think the Title was misleading as you would think the whole book was about the Salem Witch Trials.
