We had a family vacation from the 4th to the 11th, so my start date was deferred to today. Going great so far. :-)

From "In the Beginning..." - A Catholic Understanding of the Story of Creation and the Fall by Joseph Ratzinger:

The Christian option is precisely the opposite. Man is dependent, which he can only challenge by lying against being. This is the point on which we must insist on the a-rational, or better, irrational, character of Marxist rationalism.

Yes. Ratzinger is exactly right. I suppose that having watched the Vatican failing to learn from its Ostpolitik and subsequent betrayal of the Chinese Church, I shouldn't be surprised when a weak man like Francis pronounces such blather. But I found it very sad.

In Thomas Sowell's language: Marxism is an unconstrained vision, one that deems there to be no limit to the future development of man and no God with whom to be concerned.

Catholicism, however, is very much a constrained vision, understanding that we are all fallen sinful creatures, dependent on Jesus for this-world improvement and next-world salvation.

Sebastian has asked if we could choose our books earlier so that he would have time to get them sent to him to read on a timely basis.

This seems like an entirely reasonable request to your moderators. Our thought is that in the August voting, the top two books would be selected, one for September and one for October. Thereafter the voting would be held a month and a half prior to the month in which the book would be read, i.e., the voting in September would be for the BOTM for November.

Of course, if we have a tie this month, we would just vote again in August for the October and continue.

While we see no reason why this should present any difficulties, please let us know in the replies if this causes any concerns, or if you have other thoughts.

Thanks and God Bless.

Hi all,

My participation in the CBC will be at a reduced level for the next month as my wife and I are heading to Spain to walk a portion of the Camino. I will try to join the discussions as much as possible, but no guaranties.

I leave you in the more than capable hands of my co-moderator, Manuel Alfonseca.

Prayers for our safety and spiritual growth would be welcome.

God bless you all.

This is a proposal to participate in a project that has the following objectives:
1. To pray the Rosary on December 8th, each one in our home, for the end of the woke ideology and the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
2. Before that date, to spread this message among people we know, so that as many people as possible will participate in the prayer of the Rosary.

I will do it, Professor. Count on it. But we have to be honest, the evils do not end with the end of wokism. There is a very wise youtuber that I know called the Great Patriarch who is the scourge of the Woke and, in one of his videos he said something very interesting as a result of Francis Ford's latest film Copolla Megapolis. It is not enough to oppose wokism alone, this is the root of the tree of progressivism, which is truly our enemy, and even if we destroy progressivism, it will not be the end of evil either, because it will adopt a new form. We will always have to face evil until the end of time, but victory will be assured. However, I join the initiative. Remind me when the time came.
