The Program

I don't understand how this society works. Do they take a test everyday to see if they are depressed and if so why would a depressed teenager tell the truth when they know what will happen if they are seen as depressed?

i dont' know that it's so much a test as there are monitors everywhere - watching your actions, seeing how you dress and interact. you're interest level in things. for those teens that were able to hide it for so long that they were able to get to the point where they commit suicide - it was deemed a failure by society. they hoped to recognize the traits early enough and put them into The Program.
I was thinking the same thing; The Program's obviously not naive enough to believe that they'd give themselves up hence they literally drag teens who start exhibiting the symptoms away. To me the only answer as to why they still require a daily assessment that makes sense is that they are trying to keep up appearances. We get to see right off the bat how aggressive the Program is in admitting patients but it's also hinted at several times that on TV it's being portrayed as an entirely good-natured thing which is designed to do nothing but help 'sick' teenagers. If it were to stop using the tests the teachers, who more and more often see their students be dragged out of the classroom screaming and fighting, they might start questioning the Program's methods. I don't know, I feel like it much more sense in my head, but there you go.
