poop | 1 comments I can’t continue reading the dark tower series, I’m like kinda almost done with the second one and I really want to finish the series but it’s so long. I can’t finish it cause of the length and the stupid wheelchair lady because of her stupid personality changes. I want to finish it cause I’ve heard the series is amazing but the first one just ruined it for me so getting to the second book surprised me honestly.

I’m at the part in the book where they are at the third door and are about to open it, can someone give me motivation to keep reading 😭. Also someone needs to say something positive about wheel chair lady cause she is on her last straw with me. (Don’t come at me for forgetting her name).

I know prob no one will respond because this group is huge but I thought I’d just put it out there. If you do respond thank you so much!

James Howlett | 5 comments The drawing of 3 gets better at the end, I promise there is a point up that’s happening. I’m currently on wizard and glass and it’s a back story to Roland so it’s slower paced. However the wastelands is, in my opinion, the better of the books and something tells me you will like it significantly better. If it helps, get the audio book for the books to make finishing them a little easier.

Sarah | 35 comments I personally loved the drawing of the three, but I totally get where your coming from and in that aspect it does get better.

Kandice | 4387 comments I love every volume of this series to varying degrees, but if it isn't working for you, stop reading. No one should have to talk you into finishing a book. There are too many books and not enough time. Being unable to remember the name of a main character is a great indication that you simply are not digging a tale. Ditch it.

I totally agree there, i kept trying to finish books i just didnt like and decided this year im just going to give up if they arent working, i think especially with a series if youre not liking it theres no point trying to commit to keep reading something that potentially has at least 3 more books.
Although i dont review books that i dont finish and sometimes i reallly want to vent about it so thats the downside 😂

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments I do want to add that the wheelchair lady, Suzanna - for what it's worth - (view spoiler)

Susy (susysstories) | 89 comments I completely agree with Kandice. Not everybody likes the same books and I know plenty of people who never finished The Dark Tower. And that’s perfectly fine. Life is too short (and there are way too many books) to be reading something that you don’t fully enjoy!

Julia | 223 comments Deta and Suzanna Walker come through in the end you'll come to like them a bit more I hope.. :)

Heather (mushshroomss) | 22 comments I haven't read the series but if a book isn't capturing you I'd say stop reading. maybe try revisiting the series later if you want to but trying to push through a series you're not really feeling just takes time away from reading books you'll actually be into.

Glen | 229 comments The Dark Tower is incredible AND incredibly complex as it weaves through several other non Dark Tower books. SK has put ‘Easter eggs’ into many of his other titles that point to Roland and his tower.
I encourage you to press on as Wizard and Glass is the most fantastic novel written by King imo. However if you’re not into period pieces/western style fantasy then I agree it’s time to close the book and maybe come back to it when you feel less bogged down.

I agree about Wizard and Glass... my favorite part of the series, and almost a stand-alone story in its own right, if you read the middle of the three parts.

Michael Roch | 173 comments Might I suggest you continue with The Drawing of the Three through the end? I don't want to say what (not even in a spoiler), but something happens at or near the end that might change your mind about the wheelchair lady.

message 14: by Holly H (new)

Holly H | 1 comments The 1st book was a little bit difficult to get through, but I managed to get through the first one...but then, the rest of the story was awesome in the middle, but the last book, again, I couldn't finish it. I don't want anybody to have a spoiler on here to tell someone the end of it, but I really do want to know what happens at the end, because I'm never going to finish it. I'm just never going to. I cannot sit there and just read a book that is, to me, boring. I really love Stephen King, and I would love to finish the story just so I know what happens at the end, but I can't get to the end because I can't get through the middle of the last book. It's so frustrating, because I don't like starting something and not finishing it but I really cannot imagine ever finishing that book, the very last one.

message 15: by Gabriel (new)

Gabriel Tait I’m glad to hear you say that. I have started the Gunslinger and it is slow going. It feels like a college student’s creative writing project and I nearly put the book down for good when I got to the Hey Jude thing. I’m a bit further along now, but it feels like a bit of a chore… I have been encouraged to hang in until the second book, but this is taking me more time than I have to finish a relatively short book. Anyway, that’s my take.

I'd love to answer your question but I don't quite know how to get the message to you. It's pretty much explained in my long review of the book. I'll send you a friend request... message me... and I'll send it to you.

Oʟᴊᴀ I know how you feel, unfortunatelly, lol. But you managed to read more than I have - I kept starting, putting away, then starting again - the first book!
First I waited untill all books were published in swedish to collect them all, then I waited because of... oh well, work, life, "stuff", then when I finally decided I'm up for the series and a looong read, it was just not working out.
To this day I still haven't managed to go past first 150 pages I think, and I gave up on it. For now. I don't think anyone can motivate you unless you are feeling it, and maybe it's time to take a little break and come back to it when it feels good.
Coming from someone who didn't manage the first book this "advice" might come as silly but... don't give up :)
