Here's a tough question....... how do Brian Herbert novels etc. in the "Dune" universe compare to his dad's?

The Brian Herbert (& Kevin J Anderson) Dune books are unmitigated crap. Ignore them at all costs.

I'm just wondering.....I read the initial "Dune" entry about 35 years ago (along with "Messiah" and "Children of Dune") and thoroughly enjoyed the first book. So I decided to re-read the the first three novels in the Dune series. The second and third books lead me to believe that I made a huge mistake! Do the initial entries of Mr. Herbert's saga "not" lend themselves to a re-read? (The word "convoluted" comes to mind). I'm considering avoiding "God Emperor of Dune" and the rest of the series thereafter. Is this a common reaction to Herbert's "masterwork"?

A lot of readers loved Dune but were disappointed by the subsequent books. I only read up through Dune Messiah (Book 2).
