Ellen | 3510 comments John Douglas has been an FBI profiler for many years and was the inspiration for characters in several TV series and "The Silence of the Lambs" movie. He has interviewed many of the most notorious serial killers to try and pinpoint what sent these murderers down such a horrific spiral in their lives. This book deals with four different men who killed for completely different reasons and, thankfully, were all apprehended. While the information Douglas presents is difficult to read it is also a fascinating look into the minds of some of society's most depraved individuals. It is hard to imagine that anyone could be so coldly detached from the acts they committed but a few of these men showed absolutely no remorse at all, in fact blaming the deaths on other people or circumstances that they had no control over. Only one of the four seemed to have any regrets whatsoever, and while he certainly deserves no sympathy, it is easy to see how it all could have been prevented with some help when he was a young teen. This book is certainly not for the faint-hearted so I can't recommend it except for the diligent work of Douglas and his fellow law enforcement partners.
