David Gooch | 11 comments Nominations are open for the February Group Read. Nominations will close on Sunday 21st January 2024 at midnight GMT. If voting is then required a poll on the nominated books will run until 29th January 2024.

Rules:
1) All nominations in this thread please
2) Please when nominating a book make sure even if it is a book in a series that it can be read as a standalone and not all the series required first.
3) No books we have read in the last 12 months and our list of books read as group nominations can be found at https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...
4) Where possible try to do the same with authors and not one we have read in the last 12 months.
5) No self nominations from authors please.
6) It must qualify as a British Mystery as we are a British Mystery Book Club. If you want to know more on what qualifies then please read the thread "What Is A British Mystery?" where we had a discussion on this and decided. It is at https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
7) If you nominate and the book becomes a group read it would be good if you could be the discussion leader on it for that month.
8) Any problems or queries then message me.

David Gooch | 11 comments The main problems we are going to have if I can't get Admin back on here is
Can't move posts to top or change group titles positions,
Can't send emails to group which means can't notify nominations are open or votes open.
Can't update group photos and things
Can't do general maintenance eg delete old out of date posts etc.

I have set nominations up for Feb and we will have to work with that for now and in meantime I will bug Goodreads to put me as Admin if not it will have to be a new group as over time it just won't work as it is too much time and effort with Admin privileges to do stuff properly.

Beth Stewart | 644 comments Should we all bug Goodreads to fix the situation? How do we do that?

I nominate:

Halfway House: Meet the roommates from hell
Helen Fitzgerald

Helen Fitzgerald has been a huge favourite since I first discovered The Devil's Staircase with this group ten years ago. But I gather from the review I read in The Times to expect some coarse language.

"They`re the housemates from Hell...
When her disastrous Australian love affair ends, Lou O´Dowd heads to Edinburgh for a fresh start, moving in with her cousin, and preparing for the only job she can find ... working at a halfway house for very high-risk offenders. Two killers, a celebrity paedophile and a paranoid coke dealer – all out on parole and all sharing their outwardly elegant Edinburgh townhouse with rookie night-worker Lou.... And instead of finding some meaning and purpose to her life, she finds herself trapped in a terrifying game of cat and mouse where she stands to lose everything – including her life."
