57. Wish Upon a Star by Ola Wegner 3.5* 4*? (Can't decide) sweet, sorta – both D and E wary of putting themselves on the line again fearing rejection. Jane is surprisingly quite insightful. Bingley quite a bit more decisive and interfering for J&B's matchmaking for ODC. It is implied that Lady C's illness and death prevented the infamous Lady C confrontation at Longbourn that gave D hope in canon.
WIP George Knightley 51-75 Books58. Moonlit Promises at Pemberley: A Sweet Pride & Prejudice Variation by Carin Grace [ARC] 3* This short story explores ODC's relationship soon after their marriage, apparently leaving off from canon, eavesdropping in on their evening conversations. There isn't much of a plot (other than references to helping the Bingleys out of a bind and potential fallout), just eavesdropping into sometime overly sweet adulation of each other. Just not very convincing I'm afraid.

Don't care that her mother was the worst and warped her. She's an adult and she is deliberately cruel. Just because she is not sure of her emotions (or anything for that matter) does not give her the right to play with others emotions (primarily Darcy in this case).
WIP George Knightley 51-75 Books63. The Best Of Relations: A Pride And Prejudice Variation by Catherine Bilson 4* reread: Reread. Aunt Gardiner saves the day around the Netherfield Ball- she knows Darcy and he is a cousin. AG writes to Lizzy to tell her that he is a good man and then comes to Longbourn to tell everyone that Wickham is horrible (worse than canon – or at least as exposed in canon) . AG firmly but kindly is the catalyst/instigator of both D & E humbling (without the angst of canon post DHP). Mary (thanks to Darcy), Lizzy & Jane have a triple wedding.
64. A Wedding Necessity: A Pride & Prejudice Regency Variation Novella by Charlotte Browning 3* FMS, foolish, less astute Lizzy, Mr C catches them in a shed post thunderstorm post DHP. Lizzy won't let him defend himself re DHP accusations. Writing is a bit clunky and not very convincing.
65. Saints & Sinners by DizzyDrea (https://archiveofourown.org/works/536...) 4* Georgiana is quite insightful and surprisingly holds an adult conversation with her brother as he prepares to chase after Wickham and Lydia.
66. The Gazebo by Don H. Miller 3.5-4* low angst feel good read. Shy darcy who has to overcome his (perhaps) misunderstanding of his extracted deathbed promise to Mr Darcy Sr to 'marry well' – with some encouragement from some family and friends.

72. Where There's a FitzWILLiam Darcy: There's a Way by Regina Jeffers 4.5* oh Darcy. What he suffers and puts up with to help Lizzy all the while with little hope.
73. Cousin Anne by Diane H. Morris 4* Pre-Canon. Darcy and deBourgh parents still alive (much later than in canon) and all agreed to a betrothal between Darcy and Anne. Add Wickham into the mix. Cousin Anne is not the timid sickly creature from canon in this tale as she turn 18. Pour the elixir of your choice, sit back and enjoy the ensuing drama. I was doubtful that I would like this, but was very wrong – even though it ended without resolution of any sort - def non-canon alternate universe.
74. Return to Hertfordshire by Perpetua Langley 3* those involved was obvious – it still might have worked if angst levels were upped but they weren't (maybe it was intended to be but fell flat). It was a bit tiresome – thankfully short with the last bit excerpts from the first 3 of the series (I would be ticked if this were not a KU).
75. With Pen in Hand: A Pride and Prejudice Variation by Melanie Schertz 3.5* drama! Perhaps if Lizzy were older this would be more convincing. I also got whiplash from her changed opinion of Darcy. For goodness sake she's a Regency period nineteen year old gentlewoman who, on first (second but still) acquaintance, just tells D that Netherfield is too rundown to be worth letting. He's not rude about it, but says that he'll still go to inspect it with Bingley as he had promised and she throws a epic snit and storms out like a 5YO. Expecting him to apologize (of course he does) but seriously, she is n.i.n.e.t.e.e.n. Without having proved that she knows what she's about. Why in the world would anyone just accept her opinion as gospel? On second meeting. Brief, brief meeting at that. Then a week (less?) later they're basically mooning over each other. Whiplash – where did that come from? Anyway... that's just the beginning. Little angst between ODC afterwards, angst from outside but quickly resolved. I generally like her books, even those where the writing is clunky but this one just ... irked.

Fanny Price 76-100 Books 76. Elizabeth's Adventure: A Pride and Prejudice Variation by Anja Katz 3* arranged marriage of sorts. Not very convincing (nothing to do with the dragons). Witting is good enough
77. Unsent Letters: A Pride and Prejudice Novella by Lory Lilian 3.5* compromise (rumours not true compromise) at Hunsford – no DHP, but D still gets a chunk of his humbling. This was not the most convincing of this trope I've read.

80. Tides of Bath: A Retelling of Persuasion by Newton Priors 4.5* earlier resolution, parallels the original story to an extent in different context with some new characters and others absent. Engaging, we saw into both Anne and Frederick's heads as they both struggled with their own truths. Seemed familiar, must have read it on FFN or somewhere years ago.

Lizzy's Kick (https://archiveofourown.org/works/540...) by Kaurifish 1* for the story, 4* for the writing.That was … uncalled for... quite the opposite to the author's comment @ the end of the 1st chapter. Violence is the last resort of the incompetent. We've all had those thoughts at times but to act on them? As a supposed adult? Lizzy is not a 5YO. Yet she throws a temper tantrum like one and then rejoices about said temper tantrum days later. It's appalling that many are viewing this as 'Darcy deserved it'. Really? Assault is justified? He most definitely was offensive in his proposal - the. day. before - but he was not malicious. She was. Deliberately malicious. She did NOT kick him in self-defence by any stretch of the imagination; he was walking away. The situation was not escalating, she was not being threatened. Think about that the next time you hurt someone else's fee-fee's - would they be justified and applauded in that case to haul off and kick you in the jewels (if you're a guy) or punch in you in the ****? It will get you arrested. And rightfully so. I know that our times are fraught , divided and contentious but there is no excuse for this. none. end of rant. (well it's still going on in my head but done here.)

Solving Anne's source of illness by discovering a vitamin deficiency? really? Vitamins? and Vitamin B!??? in an age where they still believed in the 4 humours from the Pre-Roman Iron Age!? Vitamins weren't discovered until after WWI - ish. Ya, they figured out the cure to scurvy by then, but had zero clue why citrus worked. grrr.

89 Captain Wentworth's Journey: The Love Story Behind Persuasion by Alexandra Daniels 3.75* This gives a different spin to Capt Wentworth's thinking through the narrative of Persuasion and also tells the story of their first engagement (different than I had imagined while reading the original). It was not totally convincing, but still an entertaining and quick read in the form of diary entries (or they were meant to be, those from the present read more as current observations).

There's potential here with a Mercenary Lizzy (and Darcy knows it, but doesn't quite know the depth of it) and bit of a floundering Darcy – I've seen reviews that has describes him as douchey... I didn't see it that way. He's doing his best, with very little help from Lizzy who is.. well Lizzy – immature and stubbornly prejudiced. Dary's not without fault, but he is only human afterall and for the times, 1812, he's pretty progressive I think.
145 Her Voice of Reason by Ola Wegner 4* reread. A Mercenary and rather immature Lizzy. What does Darcy see in her (of course he doesn't know that she's mercenary for quite a while)? She is a lying liar who lies and quite frankly quite self centered and self absorbed. I know, naive, ill informed (because you know 1800\s) and young (by our standards she is maybe a 14 yo in a 20/21 ish yo body?). Why in the world would Darcy fall at your feet when you finally tell him that you love him after all the accusations, deceit and lies? Why? Why would he trust you? I am jaded I suppose.

I've heard a lot of propaganda/indoctrination from company speeches (both internal and external) in my time, but my goodness, the speech and dialogue at that first Netherfield event was just eye rolling.

555 Prejudice and Pride : A Contemporary Twist (Modern Romance Retellings Book 1) by Viktoria Schiller (2024-11-16) DNF Modern : This story reminds me of Love & Ambition: A Modern Day Retelling which I didn't like very much either - (Elizabeth is a reporter/writer and Darcy is a tech business owner). The writing (nor the story as far as I got) is not as pretentious as L&A was, but the same level of navel gazing and prejudices on Liz's part with her constant and incessant questioning 'is there more to Darcy that I thought?' (from the 1, ONE, time that she met him at a gala with very little interaction?) Her sister must be wrong, his best friend must be wrong, she must be right in her assessment of him, but maybe not? ad nauseam. From one meeting. I put it down after 2 chapters.
