Welcome Simone. I write but I am just a writer and not an author. I hope you get a chance to connect with authors on here that help you with the journey.
Simone wrote: "Thank you. Do you plan to publish your writing at some point, or is it just a creative outlet?"
I write for fun. This year will make 37 years that I have been writing. I don’t desire to get published. I write for myself. I write stories that I like to read. I have a writing challenge story on another Goodreads’ group that I am on that has started in 2010 and I’m still writing to it. The stories in the challenge aren’t written to be critiqued. They are just fun stories for anyone that wants to read. My stories have errors. I like to write about dangerous bad boys,

You are welcome. This is something that I have shared on here for years to authors and writers. Always write for yourself. Don’t ever write for anyone. Yes authors are going to want readers to read their work, but if they write for an audience, then it’s possible that they can let people tell them how to write.
Authors and writers have to love their own story/stories and not because it’s their own story. They need to read their story, before the audience does to see how their story makes them feel. They have to be true to themselves about their story - see their strength and weakness. Have a thick skin and stand on your ground. Some audience will not like/love your story and that’s fine. Never think that you deserve a 100% likes/loves. Never think that you deserve 4 or 5 stars. Authors and writers are readers too. Do you like/love every book you read? Do you give every book a 4 or 5 star rating? I don’t.
Authors should not be afraid of reviews. Some authors don’t even like to read reviews. Why do they want people to read their book, but don’t want to read reviews about their book? Yes some readers that write reviews can be down right ugly. Some thinks it’s okay to attack authors. Some are hard of grammar. I’m not. Why? Because I know that my stories have errors and not just my stories, Bestseller books have errors too. Plus grammar errors can be found in a reviewer’s post. The author is not making anyone buy their book. Most books can be checked out from the library, Libby or Hoopla. It won’t hurt to try before you buy. Yet this doesn’t give an author an excuse not to make their work as error free as possible.
As I have said before I write for fun. My story Trespassing has errors. I write more like a script than a book.
Authors and writers, when you love your story, nothing else will matter. A story can always be upgraded.

I agree wholeheartedly. One of my favorite authors, Octavia Butler, said that writing a memoir felt like stripping for the public. I think writing is like that. Putting yourself out there is difficult, and you have to be prepared for people not liking your work, or people pointing out your mistakes. I write because I feel stories in me that I need to get out an I am happy if others gain enjoyment from them.
My name is Simone, and I joined this group to connect with other fans of IR novels. I love the discussion and recommendations., and I've noticed in the comments that some people also write.
I also embarked on writing IR and have two episodic novels on Kindle Vella, but I am just starting this journey and would love to connect to other writers to discuss every aspect of the journey.
