Welcome Sarah. Are you new here? If you've been here before, I apologize for forgetting. I'm at an age where I doubt my memory. Yes, you can nominate Mere Christianity. CS Lewis is not Catholic but he's near Catholic. We welcome his books.

Right now we're in the middle of a read, Quo Vadis. Once we're finished with that we can nominate the next book, and you can nominate Mere Christianity. I might vote for that myself. It's something on my list of books I need to get to. I would estimate we have another month to go with Quo Vadis. If you like you can join us. The discussion of the book is here:

Casey (tomcasey) | 131 comments every few years I read it during lent. there are roughly 40 sections/chapters of just a couple pages each so lines up nicely for daily reading.

I've read it a long time ago and don't remember much at all.
Actually, it would fit nicely with our rotation for a regular non-fiction read.
We have four weeks left to finish Quo Vadis, which we'll get us to the beginning of Lent. So how about if we revisit this in a couple of weeks to get the nomination process going?

Bruce Strom | 74 comments Mere Christianity is an excellent choice. The Catholic version of this is another famous book, Catholicism, by Henri De Lubac, which was influential for the Vatican II Council. In his forward to the book, Pope Benedict says, "My encounter with this book became an essential milestone on my theological journey."

Thank you Bruce. I've wanted to read soming by De Lubac. I've heard of him but not familiar with his work. I noticed there were two titles by Lubac with similar names. Is this the one?
Catholicism: Christ and the Common Destiny of Man

There is another one too. This one:
Catholicism A Study of Dogma in Relation to the Corporate Destiny of Mankind

Which is the one you recommend?

Bruce Strom | 74 comments Christ and the Common Destiny of Man was the classic, do not know about the other one, maybe it is a scholarly sequel.

I gave a copy of this book to a close relative who drifted away from the Church along with praying every day for them to come back to Church. I have hope as did St. Monica for her son that it will happen some day. We discussed this issue on another occasion here and I do not want to change the direction only made the comment because this fine work came up.
