My review:
I really enjoyed this humorous, coming of age story set on Mackinac Island. The characters were eclectic and entertaining. The island, and the way of life there, was possibly the most compelling character. If you are someone who loves the island and enjoys a fun read I highly recommend this book.

Mary Vigilanti | 5 comments This book brought back memories of the summer I worked on Mackinac Island--
I sailed to Mackinac Island in my dad's new sailboat the middle of June 1973 and found a job working at the Chippewa Hotel as a waitress and maid. For 6 days I was a breakfast & lunch waitress, then for 6 days I was a dinner waitress and then for 6 days I was a maid. So I never knew what day of the week it was. I stayed at the dormitory, St. Cloud Place, where most of the staff stayed.
My family came again in my dad's sailboat the 4th of July weekend and visited me. Later that summer, I met my husband, Mike, who was a tourist staying with his sister at the Grand Hotel.
There were a lot of fudge shops. We called the tourists "Fudgies" because that's what they all bought. I really enjoyed eating Pecan Balls with Hot Fudge Sauce, served at the Grand Hotel and I still have the recipe from the Grand Hotel's cookbook.
I stayed till the middle of September 1973 when my dad came back by sailboat to get me.

Wow, Mary! I wish you could have made it to the discussion & you probably wish the same! We all agreed that it wasn’t perfect. Especially for YA kids, we thought they were too young. But it was fun & had a good friendship ending & no Casinos! A question? Could there be lilacs in bloom in August that Jack put on Grandpas grave???

Your story is really good. Do you think we could have it put in the Mirror or Lib . Website to kind of advertise our group?

Mary Vigilanti | 5 comments I found the photo that my mom framed for me--The Harbour at Mackinac Island, showing all the sailboats, the Chippewa Hotel and the Grand Hotel.
I agree with your rating. My memories were better than the book.
Yes, you can put my story in the Mirror or Lib. Website.
And yes, I think lilacs could be in bloom in August. I'm not positive, but maybe?
