Word list
calendar--Straight Shooter: A Memoir of Second Chances and First Takes by Stephen A. Smith--finished 2/17/2024--pg. 79--Between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. each weekday, my job included listing school-lunch menus, calendar items, and local birth listings.
celebration--Dog on It by Spencer Quinn--pg. 244--Kosher: I knew that word: it had something to do with chicken, specifically, the best chicken I'd ever tasted, at the celebration dinner after the final stakeout in the Teitelbaum divorce.
dragon--Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury--finished 2/10/2024 --pg 109--They leapt into the air and clutched the brass pole as if it were the last vantage point above a tidal wave passing below, and then the brass pole, to their dismay slid them down into darkness, into the blast and cough and suction of the gaseous dragon roaring to life!
dumpling--The Double Life of Benson Yu by Kevin Chong--finished 2/27/2024--pg. 145--His stepmother was making dumplings for dinner--buttery flour-fat bombs, not the kind he grew up eating.
envelope--The Man in the Brown Suit by Agatha Christie--pg. 253--He looked at the name on the envelope. Sir Eustace was watching him keenly.
family--Surrender by Adara Wolf and R. Phoenix--finished 2/11/2024--pg. 93--Even I have a family--the Cresci family, maybe, but people I can count on to have my back.
festival--A Ghost on Cozy Mountain by Pamela Grandstaff--finished 4/2/2024--pg. 222--"He used to take it to festivals all over the east coast, but then he got his girlfriend pregnant and had to go to work at his dad's bank. It was a steal."
incense--The Double Life of Benson Yu--pg. 24--Inside they ascend the creaky steps until Benny recognizes the altar with incense and a statue of Kwan Kung in the landing outside the door, which Shirley opens with a key she wears around her neck, just like Benny.
lanterns--Moonshadow--Thea Harrison--finished 2/22/2024--pg. 244--"Get food, water, lanterns, and tools."
luck--The Double Life of Benson Yu--pg. 46--"You're in luck today. Do you have a paper and pencil?"
moon--Dog on It--pg. 226--Bernie had all these strange ideas about the moon--like it had no light of its own and had once been part of the earth--but all I knew was that it did things to me; hard to explain, but I felt my sharpest in moonlight.
worship--The Man in the Brown Suit--pg. 177--"And giraffes. They were nomadic, you see. It wasn't till they settled down in communities, and women did one kind of thing and men another, that women got weak. And of course, underneath, one is still the same--one feels the same, I mean--and that is why women worship physical strength in men; it's what they one had and hae lost." "Almost ancester worship, in fact?"
BONUS WORDS :
ancestors--The Man in the Brown Suit--pg. 7--Frankly, I hate Palaeolithic Man, be he Aurignacian, Mousterian, chellian, or anything else, and though I typed and revised most of Papa's Neanderthal Man and his Ancestors, Neanderthal men themselves fill me with loathing, and I always reflect what a fortunate circumstance it was that they became extinct in remote ages.
culture--The Man in the Brown Suit--pg. 10--Our principal reason for settling in Little Hampsley had been the neighbourhood of Hampsley Cavern, a buried cave rich in deposits of the Aurignacian culture. We had a timy museum in the village, and the curator and Papa spent most of their days messing about underground and bringing to light portions of woolly rhinoceros and cave bear.
fireworks--Fahrenheit 451--pg. 59--Behind her the walls of the room were flooded with green and yellow and orange fireworks sizzling and bursting to some music composed almost completely of trap drums, tom-toms, and cymbals.

This month’s challenge is inspired by Lunar New Year, celebrated across Asia, and in Asian communities around the world.
Your challenge is to find the following words/phrases in the TEXT of the books you are reading this month. All are items that historians believe were likely part of that first thanksgiving feast.
You are NOT restricted to one book / one word; you may find as many of the words/phrases in a single book as you like. If you find all the words in one book you are really lucky!
Word list
calendar
celebration
dragon
dumpling
envelope
family
festival
incense
lanterns
luck
moon
worship
BONUS WORDS :
ancestors
culture
fireworks
===========================================
Unless a variation is specified above, words must match exactly, with the following exceptions: I will accept a plural/singular version, or differences in spelling between British and American English (e.g. honor or honour). But those are the ONLY deviations allowed. So if you are looking for "gold" - I will NOT allow "golden."
All books used must be a minimum of 100 pages long - Page length determined by HARDCOVER 1st edition. If there is no Hardcover, then the most popular paperback governs page #.
You may read in any format - text, audio or e-book. If using audio or e-book I suggest using Amazon.com's "read a sample" feature to get a page number for your quote.
You MUST finish the book before you can claim credit for finding the word/phrase.
EXAMPLE of a successful post:
Finger - The Summer Wives ✔ - 15March23 - pg 47 - "...instant before her fingers opened, I saw..."
If you'd like to be recognized as finishing, the challenge, please post a new comment alerting me to your finish. I do not get notifications when you edit your original post.
Have Fun!
