but wow, there is so much going on and each person is in so many spots and having so much drama

bad that he slept with the wife - oops
so sad that they keep doing this trip even though this is now the, what, 3rd person to die during it? Possibly the 2nd to suicide?? Yikes!!

I have no guess at all as to who killed the wife (or if it was actually suicide and he hid the letter maybe because it named something he doesn't want known). The money angle is definitely interesting - selling the lodge (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ didn't someone say something to the detective. didn't someone know him from before? hmmm. Now I don't remember. Did the P.I. have reason to kill him?

I like that we get the interview in that fashion, it seems to leave out the emotion or prejudice of the person "thinking" about it while interviewing

the talking to the reader started to get old
the author got a little smug lol

I'm sad the detective died - I hadn't expected that
