Tony Portell | 1 comments How do I promote my book on Goodreads? I have started a Giveaway but no takers at this point. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you can figure that out, let me know. I'm in the same boat! What's your book about?

Goodreads discourages self-promotion by authors. You can do one of their giveaways if you like (I've not done one as they're a bit out of my price range so I stick to Amazon's free KDP giveaway days instead.)

In the past I have tried things like joining genre specific GR groups and where allowed after carefully reading each group's rules about self-promotion, have left links for my book offering ARC copies. This resulted in almost no reviews for a lot of wasted effort and lost writing time. I no longer bother with it.

If you are looking for reviews, this review group offers reading rounds and the one for one list:

Eric Gibson | 82 comments My experience has been similar to Kat's. I joined every group I could find that allowed me to post ARC's. I've gotten a few takers, very polite and grateful. No reviews. Most of those groups seem to be nothing but writers promoting their books at each other. I've gotten two reviews—good ones, too—just from posting in the new authors topics of a couple of threads, so you never know. Ultimately, you have to give reviews to get them. Pick groups you like and be active.
